SO fed up, my nails are in a terrible state, flaking and breaking. I’ve tried a nail varnish, nail oil nothing made any difference. I’ve even had biotin etc.
I’m on Flecainide, Bisoprolol, Empagliflozin and Rivoxaban and convinced one or more are the culprits.
any ideas and suggestions welcome as
So fed up.

I am so sorry to read about your nails….it must be very upsetting and frustrating when you’ve tried all sorts of things already. I am not sure what the culprit could be but I wouldn’t think it was the bisoprolol. I’m quite fanatical over my nails and look after them/ paint them all the time and I’ve noticed no difference with the bisop and I’ve been taking that since late last year.
Have you tried OPI nail envy? You can buy different ones for varying types of problems, if yours are brittle/breaking/flaking they do one for that. You apply it every other day for a week and then remove it with acetone free remover. You can also apply varnish over the top. Easily found on line if you Google? What nail oil did you try and how long did you use it for/how many times a day? did you apply it under the back of your nails and up the sides etc?
I’m sure others will be along soon to try and shed light.

There have been comments on the forum which seems to suggest that there may be a connection between flaky, split nails and some anticoagulants, particularly warfarin. Are you aware of having any calcium deficiencies……..
I totally agree with Lynne. You can also buy it from Nail polish direct, Don’t ever buy OPI from Amazon, as Lynne says., as they are possibly fakes. I can vouch for Nail polish direct authenticity and have bought from them for years. I’d get either ‘hard and brittle’ or ‘sensitive and peeling’ or the original. You haven’t said which nail oil you use as it can make a difference ( some do nothing) and you need to apply it religiously, a few times a day for always- and never forget underneath nails at the back.
I always buy my OPI nail remedy from Boots as I can see what I'm getting and know it's not a fake which often happens on Amazon. My nails are dry flaky and brittle too but I don't take any anticoagulants just Flecainide.
Mine are occasionally brittle but I put it down to the weather and age (68). I found this that you might enjoy reading, although you probably already have seen it:
My nails are also in poor condition and my hair is thinning, it’s alway been fine but loads of it, I take bisiprodol and apixaban. Im blaming the apixaban but would be interested in others thoughts. Im off to buy some opi nail remedy
My nails are like that too, and were like that before I was diagnosed with AF. I have an under active thyroid, and was told by the practice nurse that that was most likely the cause of my weak nails.
I'm on the Rivoxaban and Bisoprolol of the drugs you take, and I have to say my nails are lethal, they are so hard - I had to buy special clippers for my toe nails. So if it is drugs, it must be one of the others you are taking ! I will add, I have always had these hard nails that grow like weeds , and as I like them short, I have to cut them at least once a week.
Snap, I’m on Bisoprolol, rivaroxoban, Flecainide as PIP and soon to be taking statins, my nails are a disgrace! Use sally Hansen nail strengthened which does seem to help!
I bought a product online out of desperation and it is actually working for me. I take Eliquis and Multaq so don't know if that could be a cause. I assumed it was an age issue. The product is called FlexiNail penetrating conditioner. It took a few weeks but is really making a difference
It must be the meds doing this to us because I have always had beautiful nails and now they just constantly seem to chip off so they are really short now. When I say chip I mean the nail not the polish. I am off of everything but blood thinner now so hopefully they will finally come back to life. Best of luck I have no idea what to do with them or for them.
Ive had a problem with flaky splitting and breaking nails for years and that didn’t get any better or worse since taking rivaroxaban. However, since taking a combo of vitamin d plus k as well as Boots ‘Hair Skin and Nails supplements my nails are the best/strongest they’ve ever been. I don’t believe special so called nail repair varnishes are the solution. That has to start from within.
