Hello everyone and a Merry Christmas!

Need an answer to a question. I'm having a cardioversion on 27th December and it may seem a bit inane but my daughter wants me to go to the nail salon and get us a gel manicure. Do I need bare nails. I know from previous surgery I have been asked to remove nail polish but not sure about this with the procedure been so short. Thanks in advance for any answers.

It is not surgery and you don't even need to get undressed in a ot of places so long as they can put the pads on your chest. The process takes place in an anti room near the theatre where an anaethsthatist can put you to sleep whilst the do it,, usually less than a minute. Don't even remember taking my watch off but coulkd be wrong I can't see any reason not to look glam for it.

At the last minute before I was sedated for my cardioversion I said to the clinician “should I take my car keys and mobile phone out of my trouser pockets”. I’m not sure if it had come up before because they didn’t seem too concerned, but I put them on a tray next to the bed just in case.

I even had my shoes on during the procedure

Thanks Bob.

I can only say that I've had plenty of cardio versions ( all unplanned though) when I've had a Gel manicure and it has gone ahead ok. A better reading on the pulse oximeter on your finger is obtained without varnish although when I was last in the nurse placed the oximeter to the side of my finger.

I shouldn't think it would be a problem for such a short procedure.

I was expecting to have a cardio version last week and asked the same question - I was told if it was pale coloured nail polish it was OK but not dark and not gel. Perhaps you could go with the current fashion and have one nail a different (pale) colour, with polish not gel. I don’t know for certain but just repeating what I was told. Good luck.

Enjoy the special pampering and time with daughter. It should help to take your away thoughts of the CV. I remember my first one I was so concerned. Since then my journey has included more cardio versions and ablations. I use Yoga and meditation to help calm my worries. Wish you well in your procedure

Hello, I'm 77 yr. female, cardioversion did not work, sinus rhythm good for only 2 minutes. I do Transcendental Meditation, going to also try Acupuncture for AFIB (I did research), also Chiro adjustments (nothing electrical like Tens Machine), delaying Ablation. I'm overweight, so wouldn't do Ablation until I lost 40 lbs....only 40% success rate with my factors. EP said waste of time right now to do another Cardioversion try. Will also have sleep study done (important to know). Good Luck

Yes, you need bare nails for this procedure. Your doctors and nurses will be monitoring your oxygen saturation via your fingernails and it's very important they not be covered in lacquer.

I've had 3 cardioversions during my journey with afib & 2 ablations. I don't recall nail polish being an issue for the cardioversions. If you feel uneasy about it check with your Dr. Good Luck to you & Merry Christmas!

It's a quick shock that you will be asleep for and won't feel(the prep take the most time). The only reason your nails would be brought up is if somebody says how nice they look😊 Merry Christmas and a happy NORMAL heart rhythm to you as well!!!
