High temperatures and Bisoprolol

I hope you are all coping with this heat

In France we have been in the high 30s for a week

I take Flecinide and 1.25 Bisoprolol daily.

Since this hot weather my BP and pulse rate have plummeted and Afib returned

Has anyone else experienced this?

I am thinking of stopping Bisoprolol for

à few days.

Good idea?

Keep cool and safe

Dehydration can equal low blood pressure. So stay hydrated and as much as possible stay indoors with AC. Yes you probably don't need anything to lower your blood pressure, however there can be withdrawal symptoms from beta blockers like bisoprolol, so check with your doctor before going off or reducing the dose.

Thanks JimBetter see the doc before changing anything

Hiya Summerlily,

Not a good idea to stop Bisoprolol without consulting your GP first - to the best of my knowledge Bisoprolol is not the type of drug you can switch on and off like a pill in the pocket, do read the bit of paper in the packet. TBH, my BP is around 130/70, however, hot days when I have been home and feet up it has dropped on some days to around 114/60 however my HR is rock steady at 63 to 69 for which I thank Bisoprolol. The fact that it is holding my HR so steady is reassuring and I am confident it will ensure AF stays outta my way. All that said I am also on Ramipril and Felodopine for BP control which are more effective at it than Bisoprolol ever will be.

Yesterday when it was very hot my pulse rate was very very slow and kept missing beats as well particularly when zi was walking around. Same today. Went into AF at 10.30 last night but had to reverted to normal this morning when I woke up. Hoping it’s all down to the heat. Taking 320 Sotolol each day and 1 valsarten for BP plus Apixaban.

I think it must be heat relatedEverything is normal until I take my medication then blood pressure and pulse drop and, like yours, keeps missing a beat.

My pulse rate can be as low as 44 and blood pressure 8 / 5

Hope you remain okay today

That is very low blood pressure. Try eating more salt and drinking more. Here in the Limousin it's been a little cooler today. Yesterday Limoges hit 40° . So far no afib but a slight increase in ectopics and a slower than normal pulse ,so afib is probably lurking. Just hope the promised storms tonight materialise! Fed up with the forced inactivity which is probably accounting for slow pulse. I made ice cream today as a compensation!

Well done for the icecreamWe have just had thunder and a rather pathetic shower

Like you just waiting for the storms. Oh for some torrential rain

Hope that Afib stays away.

Well maybe not so torrential the grape crop is destroyed! So far zilch here and the wind has dropped completely . It is very oppressive. Even worse some idiot has been burning plastic all day and creating a horrible stink so we cannot even open the windows later .

We need it to help put out all the forest fires, terrifying Just had some salt, thanks for the suggestion

It turns out that the fumes here were not some idiot burning plastic but the smoke from the Gironde fires which reached the Limousin this morning! It is a lot better now but apart from a few drops of rain round 10pm no sign of any storm.

I amExactly the same with lots of missing beats among very slow pulse. My pulse rate has been 44 and I would guess sometimes lower. I was thinking maybe my Sotolol needed reducing but I saw on the lunchtime news that the heat was causing those symptoms among heart patients. When I sit down near the fan it’s much better. Hope you improve as the temps decrease. Fingers crossed for us. Thank you for replying- it’s good to know I’m not alone with this.

I’m glad you’ve asked about the low pulse. I’m on 7.5bisoprolol and my pulse has been messing around at a low rate for a few days now. Horrible feeling when it goes really low. I’ve made sure I’ve been drinking plenty but Someone else posted that you need to consider your electrolytes not just hydration. It’s confused me as I thought hot weather would increase your heart rate to cool your body.

Absolutely agree, I thought the same thingDoes that mean getting a hydration drink from the Chemist then?
