Is anyone else on Bisoprolol alongside Dronenadrone (Multaq)?
The Multaq has been very successful to date at reducing my AF burden to 2% or less every week measured via Apple Watch Series 8. After a 24 hour ecg holter my cardiologist thinks that I have an arrythmia called SVT (Super Ventricula Tachycardia). This is not AF, my heart is still in sinus rhythm, but it can feel as a very pronounced heart beat and often a 'skipped' beat
Recently this seems to have become more pronounced, especially in the evening and after eating a meal and adds to my anxiety. My Cardiologist is suggesting the beta-blocker Bisoprolol to manage the palpitations but I see that there is a warning about taking bisoprolol and dronenadrone together. I think this is to do with the effect on lowering the heart rate and my resting heart rate is already 47 and between 41-45 when sleeping.
Is anyone else on Bisoprolol after already being on Dronenadrone. What has been your experience with reducing the palpitations?
Thanks

I was put on Donedarone two years ago. It works quite well. I was on Bisop before then but taken off it when I started Multaq. I was told by my EP that I could not take beta blockers when on Multaq. That seems to be the general rule.
hi. I cannot fully remember and some of it went over my head but it was something to do with these blockers adversely affecting the sinus node and might cause bradycardia when also taking Multaq. In my case my sinus node is sick and so my rate was low anyway. Then I started having blackouts from long heart pauses on conversion back to NSR after AF so I ended up with a pacemaker. Maybe you should get a second opinion. Best of luck.
I am also on dronedarone and bisoprolol , but only 2.5 mgs of bisoprolol. I have been on this combination since I reverted back to persistent AF a couple of years ago post no 2 ablation . I started after a successful cardioversion and was also listed for ablation no 3 , which I had 5 weeks ago . So far so good but still on same meds , and consultant wants me to stay on them due to not being able to fully isolate one of the triggers for AF in the venacava . I had also seen the warning about bisoprolol but was assured it would do no harm . My resting heart rate was in the 50,s but increased to early 60’s since this last ablation .
Well on most drug sites , eg drugs.com it states that dronedarone can increase the blood level and action of bisoprolol . Therefore can cause low heart rate . However I’ve never had that issue .
I’m 81 yrs and have been on Bisoprolol and Dronedarone for over a year since my surgical ablation in April last year. Heart in sinus rhythm and resting pulse around 50. No ill effects whatsoever.
