Do you feel lightheaded and faint when the pause happens ? I had long pauses which caused me horrible symptoms so I now have a pacemaker which stops it.

Sometimes you will have an extra beat and sometimes you will have a missed beat.It comes with the terrain of being a member of this forum.

No, it was not just a miss beat it took longer to go on to another beat. Was told that if I feel dizzy or faint to let the docs know. My cardiologist as been informed. Waiting to hear from him.

We are not medics, so please always consult with your cardiologist.Take all our advice with a pinch of salt !

I did a quick search and there is something called "sick sinus syndrome", which is probably completely different to what you feel. It also depends how many pauses and the time between consecutive beats.

Could it be the medication you are on?

"Sick sinus syndrome is a type of heart rhythm disorder. It affects the heart's natural pacemaker (sinus node), which controls the heartbeat. Sick sinus syndrome causes slow heartbeats, pauses (long periods between heartbeats) or irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias)."

I gather that there is usually what is called a "compensatory pause" after any premature ("ectopic") beat, although not always after some of mine I notice. This leads to the heart valve shutting more powerfully, giving a "thump" feeling. Although everyone gets ectopic beats, it seems to me that since my ablation, I have lots more of them, often in long runs.

I think they feel far worse than they actually are.

It’s called the qt interval. Are you per chance taking sotalol? I take it and we watch the qt interval very closely.

Hi Janith, not taking anything for it. How long have you had it.

I don’t “have it” … l take sotalol and have taken it from the beginning … one of the symptoms of sotalol is prolonged qt interval, but it has never happened to me … undoubtedly one of your medications may be causing it. Check with your cardiologist. Best wishes.
