You get asked the dreaded question๐Ÿ™„, how do you respond;

A. The electrophysiology of my ganglionated plexus is not what it should be.

B. Who gives a xxxx.

C. Dunno, I give up.

Or have you a short, more appropriate response you would recommend? Youโ€™ve probably all been there too, put on the spot and lost for words ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

If the question you're talking about is "What causes your afib", interestingly enough no gp, cardiologist or ep has ever asked me that question. Unfortunately most believe the only real trigger is the aberrant electrical system in your heart. So, if a doctor ever asked me that question, my response would be "thank you so much for asking, if you have few hours I will be happy to go over my triggers with you :)

Worried rels, friends, " my heart itself is fine, it's a malfunction in the electrics".Nosey acquaintances, dismissive friends " The electrical messages come from various parts of my heart instead of one central spot so my heart's chambers may beat at different rates, causing abnormal rhythms. I've hit 160 bpm sometimes and it makes me feel crap/ unwell (exaggeration for effect, adjust adjectivesfor audience!!)

Oh. Got it. lol. I only bring it up when needs to be, for example, "I'd love to help you move all your furniture to the new house, but I have something called afib and you really don't want to have to drive me to the hospital". Stuff like that.

I just say that my heart beats out of rhythm, it can make me breathless and tired as not enough oxygen goes into my blood.

I didn't answer your question properly. What I think caused mine was having too active a life, swimming (training twice weekly or more), horse riding, cross country running, long distance walking, cycling, bringing up kids and stress in general. I think I had more stress in my life than the average person. Nasty occurrences happened.

Oh Jean, sounds like me too. Though I am so wanting to get back to all that activity. Cycling, running, hiking. 2nd ablation in Feb.

Am now getting runs of quite a few ectopics which I never had before.

Feeling old, before my time ...

I know the feeling. I was thinking that in my retirement I'd have a vegetable plot in my garden and belong to walking clubs.

I don't think I've ever had ectopics. Just the hateful AF, but I have it fairly well under control now. Still wouldn't risk spoiling any groups walks, too afraid my AF would kick off.

No, I've tried stopping Flecainide, but my heart problems get worse.

Like you Jean i love walking. I rejoined the local Ramblers group but only ever go on local walks with them so if i have a tachycardia episode i can just jump in a taxi home. I enjoy the company

Hi

Within 4 days the hospital know what caused my A.F.

Thyroid Cancer

As the problems with thyroid cause A.F.

and

the Stroke (Left Frontal Lobe) Ischaemic (Embollic) was caused by the A.F.

So first thyroid cancer, next A.F and finally a stroke as thyroid cancer undiagnosed

no physical lumps or bumps.

I guess the ? of why do you think you have A.F could be careful thinking by yourself.

Otherwise it is reporting on history or what was happened in the past.

The private cardiac specialist got my history. Calculated it too and decided to try me on a CCB as Metoprolol (breathless and no energy and tired. Bisoprolol change did not bring down my rapid persistent A.F

diltiazem was the best ever A.F reducing but 180mg too much.

So now on Diltriazem 120mg a.m and Bisoprolol 2.5 p.m.

You are on the road to controlling your A.F. History is so important.

cheers JOY 73. NZ.

I tell people, anything chemical throws me into Afib. Like MSG, or any hidden flavoring or even flavored water. I must stay away from a lot of sauces and gravies that are from restaurants who knows whatโ€™s in them? Flavored coffee another trigger. Stress of course will do it.
