So I have an AF episode about once a month. My worry is my left calf aches a bit today and is a bit swollen. My ankle is also swollen but it squire often like that when it’s warm because of my weight. When I walk there is no pain in my leg and it snot hot or cold to touch. No veins showing through and no marks. I know you’re all not Drs but you have a very knowledgeable lot!! I’m not on blood thinners and my Chad score was very low. If it carries on I’ll call GP but I’m Nate’s other epip experiences with such matters? Am I overreacting because of my AF!! Oh and I have health anxiety so that doesn’t help!! Thanks

Question about DVT
Hi. Personally, I would call 111. They can advise you. With you not taking anticoagulants, it is better to be safe than sorry.
Hi Pingu.
I have this also - it's the upper part of my legs that cause the problem. Your health anxiety won't help either.
'Am I overreacting because of my AF'
No of course your not. I wonder though if you have afib once a month if it would worth considering an anticoagant - worth a mention to your doctor.
Don't panic as I'm sure you'll be just fine. As Marina say's though maybe a call to 111 is a good idea - just to play safe.
I feel you will be fine - a call won't hurt though.

I had a scare with very painful (DVT tends to be VERY painful) calf a few months ago. I rang my GP surgery who had me there within 10 mins to see an emergency doc. A nurse was waiting for me to do a D-Dimmer blood test which gives an almost immediate (10 mins) result. It is was negative but after examining my calf the GP diagnosed Fleebitis - inflammation of the veins and prescribed anti inflammatory gel which sorted it out within a few days.
My point is this is something like a painful calf when you have AF is taken very seriously and a very quick test will determine whether or not there is a clotting issue so don’t hesitate to seek medical attention rather than worry.
I had a DVT in the calf 20 years ago, it gets hot, swollen and hurts like hell! So I wouldn't worry too much as your issue doesn't sound too bad but certainly worth asking your surgery to check it out, starting with "because I have PAF......."
Your GP is your best friend at times like this - have you phoned the surgery? I get this now and then and I used to worry (yes... ruddy health anxiety is a pain!), but it has always gone away as mysteriously as it came. I even used to take half an aspirin when it came, just in case! But it never was DVT, just some unimportant thing sent to try me! I bet yours is the same. but do have it professionally checked.

If you have DVT this is an Emergency. You need to be on anticoagulants to prevent a clot from from causing a potentially fatal pulmonary embolism. I would go to a+e to get DVT ruled out or treated properly. Best, etheral
