HHR

Hi all , this last couple of weeks I’ve been getting HHR late afternoon for about five to eight hours. It’s been 14 weeks since 2nd Ablation, I’m just wondering if this is still normal or do you think it’s a sign it’s going wrong again. I’m positive but a couple of times i had to take an extra pill to lower the HR. I have halved my meds now for about a month so it could be my body protesting I guess or maybe it could be decaf coffee or something that I had eaten. What’s your thoughts? 😊

It went to 146

Good rate for atrial tachycardia but best try and get an ecg done to establish what and send to your arrhythmia nurse. That it corrects is good.

Did it stay at that high rate for a long time, or was that the maximum you recorded?

It stayed there for about five hours. It went lower then higher in that time. One night it went on it’s own but another time I had to take a pill to help it along.

Good advice from Bob. I think that's a long time to be at that rate. How did it make you feel?

A bit rough but I try and just get in with things, I felt slightly light headed . Do you think I should have kept my meds at the higher dose.

Did your EP tell you to reduce your medication dose?

I think our hearts become so used to being kept in check by drugs that it takes a while when we stop taking them for it to find it's natural balance again. I liken it to a dog being let off it's lead. I think if it were me I'd reduce my dose at a lot slower pace. Like by a quarter to start with for a month and then keep dropping by that amount each month.

I've stopped medication before and have had different results, stopping immediately and putting up with a few fast heart rate episodes,. The first time I did that it worked well and I had a good 6 months AF free, then back it came. The second time I did the same and had another 6 months AF free. Then I tried reducing my medication dose gradually, but I was impatient and believe I did it too fast. It was a complete failure and now for a few years I haven't even tried, but who knows when I'll next have a go. My good AF results were always over the summer months . Never at any time would I stop my anticoagulants.

Hi, my arrhythmia nurse said I could come off them all together if I wanted but I said I thought that was to much too soon so I halved it and said if it went well I would come off altogether. It has not been to bad yet but I think I was more settled on full meds. I do feel I have a lot more energy since halving them though which feels great.

That sounds promising. Wishing you success.

Could be a number of things such as atach, 2:1 flutter or afib if irregular. If it's every day, you want to go in for an ecg as soon as possible and capture the episode. If sporadic ask for a holter monitor or get a home monitoring device like Kardia or Apple Watch which will generate an ecg you can share with your doctor.
