Good morning and welcome to the forum which I see you joined this morning. Sorry to hear about your problem which must be very distressing for you but this forum focuses on heart arrhythmias and I would have thought that it is unlikely that there is a connection. I hope you manage to get some help to resolve your difficulty……….

Ok not knowing if you're male or female, here is my advice:

What soap or shower gel are you using? Try the Radox shower gel in the green pack. Make sure you wash every bit of your body and pay extra attention to your feet, crotch area and armpits. For private body bits use baby soap. Don't forget to wash your tummy button area.

Behind ears can be a smelly spot if you don't wash there.

Breath, always floss your teeth, bits of food can get stuck there and cause bad breath, give your tongue a scrub too. Smell the floss after doing between each tooth to see if you can find where food may be trapped.

Hair - when you wash it, pay great attention also to washing ears and the whole area of your neck.

Are you washing your clothes regularly? Underwear needs to be changed daily and clothes washed after about 12-24hrs of wearing . On a hot day and if you have been sweating, you will need a shower and those clothes must be changed. Bodies give out a small amount of fluid all the time and this can make clothes smell. Just because clothes look clean, doesn't mean they are. Put them on a quick wash in your washing machine.

Bottoms - make sure you are cleaning yourself properly when going to the toilet, buy yourself some flushable toilet wet wipes to finish off with.

I really hope this helps you.

Flushable wipes are NOT flushable at all. Just put them in a bin.

On my Andrex packet it says they are flushable and biodegradable.

Ask a plumber. They have to deal with the resulting blockages.

I use biodegradable baby wipes - to clean out the hens - wouldn't dare out them down our loo though. We're on a macerator and pump!

Yes ... a plumber should do the trick ... he can grind out your insides, give you a good flushing ... check the body for debris and etc. Good luck.

I can totally understand that, and I thought that that was the case as well - but they are well known to block pipes and take a long time to biodegrade.

Yes. Obviously her/his pipes are blocked. Terrible smell. Just awful I would surmise.

Hi Xbs.

First of all wecome to the forum.

I can't tell you for sure but I wonder if your med's are causing this problem ? I assume you are in afib - if so what are you on if you don't mind me asking ?

I can't say I have experenced this myself but we are all different. Is it worth having a good soak in the bath instead of a shower. Medication can affect us all in different ways - maybe your answer lies there.

Have a great day.

Hi, thanks for raising this rather embarrassing issue. I have also noticed this problem. Even just after showering my armpits smell strongly. I think it's the meds as I never noticed it before I had afib. I am on ramipril, atorvastatin, Metformin and apixaban. I think this combination is causing this distressing side effect. No one else has mentioned it but people don't usually say, out of politeness.

What I found when the armpits smell sour, even after showering, is to swab with alcohol (as used for a disinfectant) and it goes away. Best to test first with a small amount for skin sensitivity.

Few thoughts:Hygiene (as Jeanie says),

Diet (leeks and garlic affect me if I eat a lot; high protein diet and lots of cheese can also impact)

In general, if your body is slow processing food you might be more likely to smell.

Anxiety - I definitely smell differently I'm getting anxiety! We give off pheromones when our flight and fight mechanism is on.

If you are neurodivergeant e.g. ASD or ADHD you might have a highly developed sense if smell. Do you typically notice smells others don't? Or react more strongly to smells than others? If that sounds like you, check into forums or do some reading about these syndromes. There's lots of good information out there to be had. My other half is undiagnosed ADHD. It's helped us a lot to realise this.

Ruby, I also found that my perspiration had a much stronger smell. As I've never perspired much I found it particularly noticeable and put it down to the cocktail of meds I was on. I'm back to normal now and the only change has been from Bisoprolol to Nebivolol but who knows.

Could it be a urine infection, which I have recently had, no obvious symptoms but a terrible smell?Hope this helps

Bicarb under arm pits. Mix the powder, teaspoon full, into a paste with a little water in hands then rub each pit.

Just to add - you can buy flushable wipes which are biodegradeable and are kinder to the earth. I am sometimes more smelly when I have an infection so maybe you have an underlying problem as someone else suggested here? Hope you can feel happier about it.

HiI once had a problem with an very strong onion smell in my armpits. I could smell it straight out of the shower.

Made myself late for work trying to wash it away but nothing touched it.

Did some searching on the net and some lovely person mentioned tea tree soap.

I bought a bottle of tea tree liquid hand soap, about 60p from home bargains ( it was a long time ago and also before I was on many of the meds I’m on now ) and it worked like a miracle.

One thorough wash and leave on for a few minutes and it was completely gone.

I always keep both tea tree soap and shower gel in my bathroom now.

It could be worth a try.

Hope you can get it sorted.

I have have had a bad body odour since I started taking Warfarin. It is most noticeable from my bowel moveent, so I have to be especially hygienic there. My advice is to use the good old fashion method of soap and flannel scrub, together with a good deodorant soap, such as Coaltar, Dettol or Shield. I finish off with Sudocreme in private parts and a dusting of Imperial leather talcum powder or a medicated powder. A good soak in the bath is best, but unfortunately I can't get in and out with arthritis in my legs. All the best.

It depends what the smell is. When I was running, an ammonia smell in my sweat indicated low glycogen. Eating meat can change your body smell as will spicy food.

I onc stank of a metallic smell when I did 24+ hours of IV flecainide. But nobody else could smell it. Could it be a drug you are taking or supplement or new food?

MisterMagoo profile image

Since taking Flecainide I have notice a rotten metallic smell along with increased flatulance that also has this odour. Interestingly, well I think so, when I had a batch of Flecainide that didn't work so well, another whole discussion, the overall smell and the flatulance was reduced. I pity my poor family.

Acid reflux can cause breath problems that you may not be aware of and dry mouth can cause also cause odour issues. If you have indigestion or other symptoms such as nausea or get a cold stinging sensation in your throat periodically it can be acid coming up. See your doctor. Do you get regular dental checks, they may point out the dry mouth and suggest artificial saliva sprays. Hope this helps

Do other people notice the 'smell' ?? If not it could be coming from your sinusesI suffered this when I had an infection was left with everything smelling dirty ,damp, stale.

Was bathing constantly, washing everything ,turned it was only me who could smell it.

Lots of replies, have they been helpful?

I sweat a lot, and I always thought it has happened more since PAF came along 8 years ago.

Do you wash your towels on a hot enough wash and dry them thoroughly before putting away ? Using a towel, damp from the last shower, will make your skin smell after rub down .

Also … l have friends (husband and wife) … they both smell the same … a weird off putting sour smell … l have never mentioned it to them. Sometimes if your mate has BO … your body will pick up the smell … and it isn’t noticeable to either person. Just a thought. However, you really should take hot baths (not showers) … tea tree bubble bath is fabulous … you can order it through Amazon … soak in the hot water and enjoy. Also insure that your premises are immaculately clean … otherwise your body will start to smell like your premises.
