Not a pleasant link if true, but this is the 2nd time I've been on IV Amiodarone inside 12 months and as well as the increased urination whilst being in fast AF I've also noticed my pee smelling as well as my general body odour increasing (sorry) despite washing and changing clothes.
I wondered if anyone else had similar experience? I've done a bit of googling and found a couple of blogs that mention odour but not specifically my symptoms and I don't recall seeing anything on the leaflet for the oral administration.

Hi Jedi - I’ve certainly noticed smelly urine, body odour not as much.
What I do notice is other people’s odour when they are ill - I first noticed this when my son was a child as he would get a very distinct smell whilst developing an illness, still does. He would also get very anxious at some events and have a similar smell - I could literally smell the fear. If he wanted a day off school I would smell him - he was never able to fool me much to his disgust.
I do think that this is a signal that not all is well.
I find some foods affect those smells but drugs usually affected my sense of smell and taste. It may actually be that your sense of smell is enhanced rather than any different smell FROM you. Animals have a much more sensitive nose than humans and I once read about a dog who could smell cancer in people who had not yet been diagnosed.
Hi...when I came off amiodarone, my Cardiologist told me that Amiodarone was not not like your usual drug ..where we secrete it via our kidneys... we secreted it via our skin and that is why it stays in the system for a long time...all I can say is stop trying to be Ray Mears....and drink some UHSM's finest tea!!
Sadly I'm closer to home in Derby hospital at the moment..... and even more sad is that I'm resorting to M&S decaff teabags in lieu of hospital tea which is just as... nice... everywhere.
Yep, I did google whilst stuck wired up in bed.... trouble is I can't quite place WHAT it smells like only that it is markedly different to concentrated urine
Since being on anticoagulants, I am definitely smelling some things differently. I haven't noticed any change in this since being put back on Amiodarone in readiness for an ablation. Most things smell as they used to but my wee and poo (sorry to be so blunt) smell most peculiar to me. I have put this down to the fact that being on Warfarin, now Apixaban, changed how I smell to me and others but I now realise it's my own sense of smell that's changed. Not so pleasant, though, I stepped in some dog muck not so long ago and couldn't smell it at all. My husband had to point it out to me...so I am now very careful whenever I go for a walk! By the way, my friend who is also on anticoagulants, has experienced exactly the same thing since taking them.
I have a very good sense of smell and can always tell is someone is taking penicillin so I suppose it could be the medication but perhaps you should check with your Dr. Now I know why I find it so hard to go in some public toilets I obviously have a very sensitive sniffer 😉
I had A very weird experience after a stay in hospital and my first ablation i am now sure (sustantanciated)it was due to the imaging contrast solution my sense of smell got magnified by about 20x which put me right off eating
Amioderone is a dangerous thing i d certainly ask for some tests if there is a big diffference! Your body is very good at telling you things and will excrete substances it doesn t like
I wouldn't be surprised. Amiodarone was so toxic to me that I had at least 70% of negative side-effects: nausea, intestinal blockages/severe constipation, fatigue, brain fog, emotional instability, vomiting... and finally suicidal ideation, I was so miserable. And yes, my urine did smell unpleasant.
Hi Jedi master, I am not currently on Amiodarone but I have noticed that the drugs I do take do make my wee smell more. I suppose the kidneys have to work a bit harder, Might I suggest incrasing your water intake to dilute things down a bit. I drink around 6 glasses per day. Hoep all goes well. Allymac
Amiodarone is a poison, nearly killed my husband It is the most common cause of death. Read "Amiodarone Toxicity"..I do not know why our Doctors put people on this stuff Willy Nilly my husband is on Thyroxine tablets for his thyroid, they put him on Amiodarone.
I have been on Amiodarone for 1 month now. This last week, I have noticed a foul smell from my urine. I also noticed that I wake up in the night with insomnia and I am sweating profusely causing body odor. You were not imaginig this - its happening to me too.
However, my ablation only lasted for 2 days and then I was back into debilitating afib / tachycardia. I took Amiodarone for 4 days afterwards and my normal heart rhythm returned! I am so grateful because after 7 cardioversions and 1 ablation, this drug is the only thing that worked. They plan to take me off it in 2 weeks so I am nervous about what will happen after that, but I have faith in my Electrophphysiologist.
