I’m due to have a colonoscopy the week after next and as I’m on flecainide (50mg x2) and bisoprolol (1.25mg) would appreciate some advice.
I don’t think I need to stop the medication before the procedure, so I’ve read but does the midazolam interact with the drugs in any way please. I’m other words would the midazolam give me af or indeed ectopics at all. My medication is doing well at the moment and I wouldn’t want any interference with the way they work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Unless you are told different, its normally only anticoagulants that need to be considered prior to a procedure or surgery. As you don’t mention one I guess your CHADS score is one or below…….
Yes chads is 1 and I’m not on anticoagulants. Just wanted to find out if the sedative given causes any issues. I wasn’t on medication at the time of my last colonoscopy.
Just speaking from personal experience the meds don't interact with sedatives. I've had 3 colonoscopies one I was awake for so medazalam and under general anaesthetic no problems with either way and I'm on a lot of medication
No way of predicting how the meds will effect you on the day. I’ve had many colonoscopies and the sedation hasn’t caused any problems but last time I had one I just had pain relief and no sedation which worked well.
Best to call the hospital. You should have a pre op chat with a nurse either in person or by phone before the procedure as I did. I was on apixaban and was told not to take it the night before or the morning of the procedure. Always best to check with them.
You should give a list of the drugs you're on in advance to whoever is performing the colonoscopy. Should be ok but no guarantees that any procedure will trigger afib. If you need a colonscopy now really no choice. If it's something that won't make a difference if you put it off for six months, something to consider, but you will probably end up in the same situation then Good luck.
I have permanent though asymptomatic AF. When I've had colonoscopies in the past I've chosen to have no sedation. I have another this year and I will continue with no sedation.
Hi, I had similar concerns to you. I had a colonoscopy a month ago and chose to have’ gas and air’ and was ok. I did have a 20 minute episode of AF about 24 hours later but think it may have been from electrolyte imbalance from the prep.
I am on Xarelto and low dose aspirin. I stopped them for three days before. Cardiologist said it would be fine and it was for me. You probably should check with some Dr. to see what would be appropriate for you. Hope it goes well for you. I was sedated and remember nothing with a fast recovery and left a half hour after the procedures (I had both). I worried so much before and was surprised I did so well.
