Obviously if you are genetically pre-disposed to nose bleeds then any anticoagulation may allow this to become more noticeable. As I'm sure you know anticoagulants are not blood thinners but reduce the clotting ability so any small capilliary bursts will appear more dramatic. Interestingly I have never had such a problem on anticoagulants but just show me a packet of aspirin and Count Dracula drops in for lunch. lol 😁
I was on Rivaroxoban for 4 years with no problems but my GP suggested that because of my weight (BMI 14) I should change to Warfarin. Since changing i have had small nosebleeds everyday. Its always the same nostril and is over as quickly as it starts but its a nuisance as I don't know its going to happen! I've answered the door looking like a survivor of a chainsaw massacre !I'm waiting for an ENT appointment as I may need to have the blood vessel cauterised. I have no other problems with Warfarin so it must be a weakness.
My friend takes warfarin rather than rivaroxaban and had some dreadful problems with nose bleeding after a fall. When I took him to A&E, the ENT he saw said he would cauterise the offending area and solve the problem once and for all. In the end, I gather, there was nothing for him to cauterise as his nasal arteries were all in good order and, eventually, the bleeding stopped on its own and hasn't recurred. It might be worth your while having a doctor check whether you could have some cauterisation done as, from what the chap said, it was a quick and painless procedure.
I was often having minor nose bleeds, particularly if I ever needed to blow my nose, even very gently. I had been on Riveroxaban for some years but (for reasons unrelated to nose bleeds) I changed my anti-coagulant a month ago to Apixaban. I've not had a nose bleed since.
Hiya,
Well, i'm the wild card in this pack of cards !
Diagnosed with paroxysmal AF in Jan 2010 and put on Warfarin and Bisoprolol. I was already on BP meds and a satin. The Bisoprolol was prescribed to be taken in the morning. Once I was stabilised I returned to work (after about 3 months) and at that point began getting random nose bleeds.
Went back to my GP and she changed my Bisoprolol to be taken at night .......... I've never had a nose bleed since and I'm still on Warfarin.
Hi, I’ve been on Rivaroxoban for 12 months now, and started getting the same sort of nose bleeds in the last month! Not something I would normally get!
I had a slight bleed only when blowing my nose (lightly). Signs of blood were in the mucus but not a continuous bleed. Have not had for the past month.
I had a couple of days of nose bleeds (one nostril only), phoned my GP and he changed my anticoagulant from edoxaban to apixaban. The latter is a twice-a-day tablet instead of once-a-day for the former, but the nose bleeds stopped.
