Sotalol

My Cardiologist has recommended DC Cardioversion and Sotalol as I’m in Atrial Flutter.

I’m already taking Entresto Apixapian & Bisoprol !

Will Sotalol replace any of these or is it an additional tablet?

I think it may replace your beta blocker Bisoprolol, as Sotalol is a combined rhythm and rate pill.

Maybe the bisoprolol. Not our place to second guess your cardiologist though.

Hi Derek.

As Bob and jean say it's not for us to second guess your cardio. Now I'm not a doctor before I add anymore to your thread.

I've been put on Sotalol as well (80mg x three a day). For me personally I would't want to take Bis too. This is just IMO for me - one or the other - not both. If your medic has told you do this follow their advice. As a matter of interest what doses are you on ? I'll take a guess at 1.25 mg bis and 40 mg twice a day Sotalol. For me 40mg didn't do anything - you may be different - we all are .

I find (for me you may be different) Sotalol hit's the spot. Bis right lowered my HR but I found it hard to function.

Please note this is not medicial advice but my own take on it from my experince about both drugs.

Best,

Paul

Hi Paul

Will you share your heart rate on bisoprolol vs sotalol ? Or was the main benefit side effects.

My doctor has offered sotalol. Thanks !

Hi Mav.

I don't check it anymore, Bis dropped it right way - no doubt. However I could not function on it. For me Sotalol seems to work. We are different though.

I'm on 80mg 3 times a day. The starting dose was 40mg twice a day which had no effect at all. My cardio increased it and seems good at the moment ! Time will tell.

Hi, I have been on sotalol (80mg twice a day) for more than a year, but never been on bisoprolol. My heart rate dropped to the 40s and I got breathless and a bit lightheaded. I now take 40mg in the morning and 80mg at night and that brought my rate up to 50s to 60s, which I find perfect.

Wishing you the best, take care.

As I understand it via my cardio you mustn’t take 2 beta blockers together. I take Sotolol 160 twice a day and have either 2.5 bisoprolol or propranolol as a PIP if heart rate is very fast in PAF. This seems to have worked for me so far.

I have been on 80mg of Sotalol twice a day for several years after a cardioversion, and for about a year and also on 2.5mg of BIsoprolol once a day, after complaining of breathlessness. My pharmacist checked on my progress but I haven't had any problems.

If you're not sure which pill(s) to take, call the doctor who prescribed them.

Both my doctor and my cardiologist say I need an ECG if I'm going to take sotalol.

Have a look at some of the good quality medical sites on the web to learn why.
