Update , I had a call this morning and was offered an Ablation last minute. It’s a bit rush rush and can’t find anyone to take me the hour journey but at least I don’t have to wait six months plus for it. This time is being put out and am scared.

Nothing to be scared about. You need to get sorted and at least you haven't got alot of time to spend worrying. I've had GA and sedation and although you get over the procedure quicker with sedation you won't know a thing about it with GA and its what your EP wants.
Sending you all good wishes for a successful ablation. ( I've got hip replacemt surgery on Saturday but I'd rather have another ablation

You are OK going on your own but need to be accompanied coming back. Don't forget to read the "preparing for" fact sheet as well as "recovering from". At least yopu don't have much time to panic. Don't bother you wll be fine..

As nearly always 😉, totally agree with Bob. Most hospitals are well served by public transport which will be fine for getting there but best avoided for the journey home. If you can’t beg, steal or borrow a lift home, see if the hospital operates some form of hospital transport and if all else fails, treat yourself to a taxi but don’t keep checking the meter! The main problem is putting a strain on the groin entry wound which could resort in a significant bleed and that’s the last thing you’ll want. As everyone has said, you REALLY will wonder what all the fuss was about when it’s over……please let us know how you get on.

You could turn it around and say 'I'm lucky it's happening so soon'. Spend your worrying on getting ready to be in bed or on the sofa for the first week. If you live alone make sure friends or relatives are checking up on you for at least that first week
I feel very lucky as I was told I would have to wait up to six months or more. I think I’m Netflix out. But just want to get back to normal and live life again. I think when your health fails you you do realise life is to short and it really make you appreciate the small stuff.

I'm with you all the way. I've had 3 ablations and heading for a 4th. I've had sedation and GA. I actually preferred sedation. I will have to go to Brighton for my 4th and if a place came up I would be stuck as my partner has just had a hip replacement and cant drive. It's about 1.5 hours away, so a bit like you and I would have to get a taxi. I know that would be expensive but your health is worth it. I agree with the others that you wont have time to worry much and I also agree it's probably easier than dentistry. Just make sure you rest and follow the guidelines. Wishing you well 👍😁

Hi. I had 2 ablations done. Didn't realize the low % of success rates of the procedure. Now l have the clip procedure that seems to have worked. Mine was done during heart surgery for other problems, but l was led to believe that you can get it done on it's own. Good luck to you.
BTW Had both types of ablations done as well.
We’re they successful.
What’s the clip procedure, my cardiologist told me the 1st time it was 70% successful but that I probably would need another one.
Something to do with shortning out muscle sugnals in the heart I didn't discuss it much with the surgeon as l was having 3 other more serious procedures done at the time. And the 2 ablations, one done with heat(?) and the cold, lasted only a few weeks each time.
Oh my goodness that is a quick appointment. I think with my last one I was phoned on the Friday to go in on the following Wednesday. That was quick enough, but I think it's better that way to be honest. Lets face it we all have worries beforehand as the date approaches and this way it's reduced.

It's interesting to hear how differently this happens across different locations. I'm on a waiting list for ablation. 3 months approx but will be having a pre assessment, will need a month of edoxaban and 2 weeks pre procedure isolation so theoretically should be getting a date soon.Wishing you well. I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine. I hope the journey is not too stressful.

This your first? Under sedation or general anaesthetic? I'm.so glad I had mine. I'm sure you can book a taxi. Ask the hospital who they recommend

Great it's general anaesthetic. You'll get an over night stay which is good. You'll be more confident. I know you had a rough time after the last - I remember now - but that's why they're doing it again. Tell yourself you're in safe hands. Ask if you can be taken home as the taxi is very expensive. You might be lucky..

As Flapjack suggested why not speak to the hospital about transport. I live 250 miles from London where mine was done but had arranged a private volunteer car to drive me home. Unfortunately I had to stay in an extra night and missed my slot so had to get a relative to do it as they do not like you using public transport.

I had my second ablation a couple of months ago under a general anaesthetic, all went well. Please don't worry, you will be fine. I found it so much more relaxing than having the sedation, Take a book to read whilst you're waiting to go down, it'll help divert your mind. Remember to take a water bottle so that you can drink whilst you're laying down recovering afterwards. Also make sure you have someone who can take you home and be with you for at least 24 hours afterwards, they won't let you go home otherwise, and beds are like gold dust at the moment. All the best.

I know you have had lots of positive replies already but I'm going to mine to it... I had an ablation under sedation (not ga) and it went really well. It's just like going to sleep and waking up with a calm heart. I felt a bit of discomfort for a few days after in my chest area - have to say I think I milked it for a bit longer as lets face it, how often do we get pampered by loved ones at home. I'm now in my seventh month post procedure and love life every day. Sending best wishes.

Good luck, I have just been told it’s likely I will need a 2 nd ablation and would love to be told come in tomorrow, get it all over with, none of that waiting around for weeks on end thinking about it. Might be a little late for you, but after my ablation I got free hospital transport home..... and the taxi driver told me that if I had booked, he could have collected me at eight the previous morning! Just a useful tip for anyone who has to get into London, for instance, and where there's no lift available.

I would ring and make sure as I and my wife have always been able to get hospital transport. I do not mean an ambulance but a private car driven by volunteers. Ring the Hospital to make sure.
Hi, i don’t tick the boxes for the free transport but I’m trying to arrange a service that is considerably cheaper than taxis .
I didn’t know there were any criteria. We have never had to answer any questions just ring the hospital and say we need transport for that day time and get it and then hospital arrange return. We are in Wales maybe there are differences on other parts of the country. Hope you manage to sort everything OK.
Hi, I’ve managed to get a volunteer driver but I pay a lot less than a taxi. I was told I had to have mobility problems to qualify for the free transport.
We don't seem to have that rule here or at least we didn't. Maybe things have changed in the last couple of years. I used to go to the gym with someone who was a volunteer driver - she used to do early morning rides to hospitals from 6 to 9 all around three counties - used to love doing the coast roads early morning she said - I imagine it was great in good weather.

Consider it a positive situation, and an added "plus" is that you don't have lots of time to worry about it! Both my ablations immensely improved my quality of life, and hopefully will for you too. Good luck and let us know how things go.
That happened to me with a back surgery before. My friend said take the appointment - you’ll be home on your way to wellness before you would even have gone in for the surgery. And yes! To less worrying time. Good luck.
