Ablation on Wednesday, Not in afib for a few days

I have a 7 year history of AFIB and have my second Cardiac Ablation on Wednesday.

I have paroxysmal AFIB not so bad after last ablation 18 months ago, but as luck has it I haven't had an episode for two weeks.

Last time my consultant said they can induce it forthe ablation, which they did. does anyone know how this works?

I will appreciate any responses.

They use a special drug to cause the AF. Stop worrying, they know what they are doing.

Thanks Bob,

I have PAF, sometimes 5 days on 1 week off or anytime, this has been very helpful

On the build up to my ablation my heart calmed down, I went to my app and I was still in a normal rhythm. They pumped me full of adrenaline hoping to kick it off. Nothing happened and I was sent home. Good luck.

They kick off your afib. If by chance you go into afib on your own during it, they'll map that too. They may shock you out of it like they did to me. All good. Nsr since last Dec

Hi, in the consulatnt report on my last ablation he says after doing ablation they tried unsuccessfully a number of times to induce AF, presumably to see if ablation worked, so it must be pretty standard for them to do.

I was told they would induce it with medication if needed but I was in AF anyway at the time. They cardioverted me after they'd done everything to get me back into NSR. Hope all goes well.

For my first ablation AF occurred spontaneously with catheter manipulation around the left pulmonary vein. ( per my notes I've just located) . How they did it was the least of my worries !

When I had it done the DR. told me they would try it without sedation but if when it starts beating to fast for me to stand to raise my hand and they would sedate me, which I did as it felt as though it would come out my chest. Everything went as planned, no problems.

You seem to be of the opinion that it would be better to have your procedure whilst in AF, but the chances of a successful outcome are actually considered better if the patient is in NSR.

Thank you everyone for your replies, they are all very helpful.

I had the ablation on Wednesday, having been in AFIB all night due to nerves. It had stopped by the morning off so was given a shot of adrenaline.!
