My flutter ablation seems to have gone well. So glad I had a general anaesthetic, I think I’m still traumatised from the previous “sedation” ablation a few years ago.
The EP tells me that I was in flutter when I went into the Cath Lab and was in sinus rhythm when I came out, so that’s good enough for the time being.
Apparently my atria now beat at different rates. I was told this is quite unusual. They might start beating in sync at some point but may carry on in their own separate ways. The doctor says either way it probably won’t be a problem unless it causes breathlessness in which case I may need a pacemaker. I feel alright at the moment so not worrying about that just yet.
I have been taken off Digoxin and the 7.5mg of Bisoprolol which was knocking me out and am now on 2.5 mg Ramipril. Still on Dabigatran.
So far so good. Tired and bruised and glad to be home. Planning to take things easy for a while.

Lovely to hear you are home and comfortable. I read your recent posts and you have had quite the month bless you! I hope your road to full recovery is smooth and I look forward to seeing more updates. Can I just ask, how easy was it to opt for a general? I'm looking at ablation as an option and wasn't aware general anesthetic was even an option. I have an anxiety disorder and worry that sedation wouldn't be enough and I'd also end up traumatized.
My EP simply asked which I would prefer. If you think you would be happier with a general then ask if its an option. I think it can sometimes make the wait a little longer. I've been waiting since last March but lockdown hasn't helped.
Great news , I agree a GA is a good choice for us nervous types but to be fair my first ( sedated) ablation was really not too bad for me either.
I know you have heard this already but for 2 weeks at least be super gentle on yourself I’m sure that taking things easy and recovering over a long period is important advice.
Well done again to you ...your heart and... the doctors of course!
Hope you feeling better soon spinningjenny. I had my first ablation under sedation too and was a mental wreck for two months after.!!! I always go for G/A when I needed another ablation. You put your feet up and take it easy you’ll soon be feeling better, take care.
I'm recovering now, too, from an ablation where I was under general anesthesia. Glad you're doing well and on the way to healing. My first was 'sedated'. I wouldn't say it was traumatic, but I do prefer GA over sedated.
