Trying to figure out what is going on with my blood pressure.
A month ago I had a fainting episode as reported on here, checked BP few hours later and was low (87/50) and was advised by GP to drop half my Losartan dose.
Monitoring BP as requested,it seemed to go up steadily and settle. I noted my heart rate is low for me (42-50ish) usually more like 55-70.
Have had a few lower readings since.
Yesterday felt a bit dodgy after a hectic merry Moving Stuff day, from bedroom to bedroom ( seemed a great idea when discussed earlier on an optimistic afternoon.)
Took BP again 80/45/42
Managed to get a GP phone call and luckily my own GP. ( Poor Hubby had a useless video call with a locum from our surgery who looked about 12 and with relative knowledge. I think I have cardigans older ).
Anyway I digress .
I now have to stopLosartan altogether and monitor. If it creeps up too far ,to go onto 25 mg. Originally was on 100(max dose)
The reason for this ramble is I wonder why it suddenly dropped after being on it for years, and would that explain the lower heart rate too?
I have an appointment due with my EP but not till March.
Just thought I'd pick your excellent brains.
It's a right carry on this lot isn't it?!!
Hope you are all doing well.xx

OOOOH Matron! I had similar a year or so back caused by my HR being slowed too much so adjusted my beta blocker. We are a problem to our doctors aren't we?
Your BP and heart rate do appear to be very low. I'm afraid I know nothing about the drug Losartan, so can't help there. I really hope that by stopping that drug you will return to better rates. Please let us know how things progress.
I will do definitely Jean thank you. Yes feel rotten! Thankfully I have plenty to occupy me , knitting flowers and reading. But need to get to the bottom of this! Xx
Sounds miserable and that BP is really low, so it must feel awful. The only help I can offer is to have your sodium level checked, failing all else. My BP goes down to low nineties over low fifties when my salt levels dip. Hate salt but my cardio told me to take 3gr. daily and drink water, water and more water.
My cardigans are definitely older than most of the lovely medics I meet. Of course, I'm convinced I'm just the same age as they are - until I catch a glimpse of this old doll in a window reflection. 😂
Low BP in my case caused by low sodium so ask for a blood test pronto. Mine topped or maybe we should say bottomed yours - 60/45. Like you, a month ago, I passed out. On advice from.this forum I reintroduced salt into my diet. As others have said your HR sounds low so an adjustment of meds may do the trick.
Might also be worth visiting the STARS site & ‘Living with low BP’ if it continues after Med adjustments. Advice - keep well hydrated, take 6g salt daily (I take more). Use support hose - standing allows blood to pool. When low or you feel ‘dodgy’ lie on ground with feet supported on a bed or chair or do the crouch & strain. Usually brings BP up quite quickly but do avoid being on your feet for any length of time & put your feet up when sitting whenever possible & pump your calf muscles.
What was your bisoprolol upped from and too? Do these low bp/hr episodes last long? My mum gets very low bp/hr 1 hour after taking her bisoprolol and all her other meds??
Hi up from 1.25 to 2.5 once a day at night. It seems fairly consistent. Ive been asked to take reading am and pm.I do suspect Bisoprolol may be a major factor.
Was there something that you had taken that interacted with your medication? I'm on medication to lower my blood pressure, and about 18 months ago, took an innocuous substance that dropped my. heart rate and blood pressure and gave me violent vertigo. In A&E, with low blood pressure and low SpO2: it took them ages to get a blood sample.
Hi it's been consistent average of 120/70/60 for a long time until the recent decline. I first noted it Dec11 the when I fainted and took a BP reading out of curiosity, but suspect it had been going down for a little while. I put down the odd feeling to Xmas/ potential omicron /stress .BP monitor is a new one so should be ok.
My sister has been on bp meds for about 15 years - same med. Same dose. She had a fainting spell a month ago. Finally got in to see a cardiologist and he noted her potassium level was slightly below normal. He suggested potassium supplements and electrolyte drinks. She will be having a stress test soon and they will go from there.
