I’m on flecainide and bisoprolol for afib since Dec 2020. They both seem to be working fine and I don’t have the usual side effects that bisoprolol gives in terms of tiredness thankfully. However over the last couple of months my mouth has become dry and painful due to ‘dry mouth syndrome’ I think. Does anyone else suffer from this due to the medication and if so could you advise how you relieve the symptoms please. Thank you

Dry mouth
Hi Profound, I’ve been on Bisoprolol 1.25mg for a couple of weeks and one of the side-effects I have is a very dry mouth at night - to the point of being positively painful! I’m currently trying some sugar free chewing gum that’s sweetened with xylitol but being very cautious in case it triggers an episode of AF. It’s a bit of a challenge isn’t it! Hopefully, some more experienced members of the forum will be along soon with their advice. I shall watch the thread with interest. I’m sorry I’m not of any help but wanted you to know you’re not alone!
Thanks Threecats. I’ve been on bisoprolol and flecainide for 13 months and it’s only reared it’s head in the last number of weeks. That’s the bit that really confuses me. I’ve bought Biotene toothpaste and mouthwash which is for people with dry mouth issues and I’ll see how I get on with that. It’s more a sore tongue that I have to cope with. Do you have the same please?
The other thing I’ve just realised is that I’ve been using Eucerin urea shampoo to sort out a skin problem on my head. Been using this for a couple of months which seems to coincide with very itchy skin and my mouth/tongue problem. I’m going to stop using it as I’ve applied it daily for that length of time. It could be a bit of an allergic reaction and stopping it might alleviate the symptoms. At least I hope so. Checked the side effects of the Eucerin and it does list inflammation of the mouth/tongue so there is a possible issue there. I can’t understand why I’ve been on flec and bisoprolol for 13 months now and had no issues until the last couple of months. Fingers crossed for me
Hi again Profound, that’s what puzzled me rather, as my dry mouth probs happen every time I take a tablet. Really hoping it is the Eucerin causing your symptoms and not the medication. I haven’t had a sore tongue, just completely dry mouth where everything is stuck together!Fingers crossed that you’ve found the answer🤞
I don’t have any pain, just the dryness and mild soreness where the inside of my mouth is stuck to my teeth! I keep sipping water all night but it doesn’t really help, hence trying the chewing gum.
I’m on 1.25mg too and yes, I understand that is the smallest dose you can get.
