Metallic taste in mouth when taking Bisoprolol?

During investigations to see if my Mum had suffered a stroke it was discovered that she keeps having periods time with a very fast heartbeat. She has been prescribed Bisoprolol two months ago and ever since she has had a dreadful taste in her mouth, food tastes vile and it's really getting her down. Has anybody else suffered from this whilst taking this drug? Any information greatly received as we have no idea if anybody else has experienced this and if there's an alternative drug she could change to. Thanks

Hi there

I have been on Bisoprolol for nearly 4 years and I think it did initially give me slightly unpleasant taste in my mouth. I think some of the other heart drugs may also do this. I think I have adjusted to this to an extent, I can taste my food but I know when I am cooking I have to be careful not to over season my cooking, tastebuds are a bit dulled, often have to get hubby to taste the food to make sure I havent been too heavy handed.

I cann't say I ever found food tasted vile but more that food tasted a bit bland. Pehaps she should try another drug. Good luck. Antibiotics are my worse med I get a really bad metallic taste while I am taking them.

Hello Heidijc, I have been on 3.75 mg of Bisoprolol per day , for many years, and have never noticed any peculiar taste or other side effects, I guess I'm very lucky.

There are lots of other drugs she can try. Please speak to GP.

Been on 15 mg bisoprolol for 2 months. I'm aware of food tasting different but nothing I can identify.

It may be worth having her teeth checked, and also making sure she doesn't have an ear infection; either of these could be a cause. There seem to be lots of possible causes of strange tastes, so it may be nothing to do with the drugs. It is worth seeing your GP to discuss the problem, and for a general check-up. If nothing helps then a change of drugs is always worth a try!

I had a similar issue with a funny taste in my mouth and food either having little or no taste or tasting vile for most of this year. I put it down to the various heart meds

I take including Bisoprolol (now changed to Carvedilol for a different reason). A few weeks’ ago, I noticed I was starting to almost enjoy food again and even feel hungry at times but I associated this with some herbal treatment I have been having for something else. But, in the end, it is hard to know what is cause and effect.

I also have a very bitter taste in my mouth after starting Bisporol , Doctor told me to stop taking it for a week and see if there's an improvement ,However after 4 days needed to start taking them again because of high heartrate bpm....immediately noticed the bitter taste again though.
