Lump at entry site after ablation

Hi. I had successful AF ablation 1 week ago. I'm curious about how others have been affected by swelling at the catheter entry site. I currently have a tender walnut sized lump on my groin. I never noticed it until about 5 days after the procedure.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Most of us I think, not normally a problem unless it’s sore, warm or showing any signs of infection. Have you read this factsheet…..

Quite normal, it happened to me most times. I bit worrying for you I know but nothing to worry about unless it gets inflamed or painful.

It should disappear relatively soon so relax.

Yes, I had the same thing after one of my ablations, it's called a haematoma. Before I knew what it was, I was convinced I had something that had been accidentally been left in my groin after the ablation. Went to see my GP who said all normal, didn't believe him so went to A&E who said normal.

Mine was very hard and like a 1.5in pencil.

Very normal. Arrythmia nurse said this would happen. It gradually gets smaller and smaller then disappears.

Dont panic happened to me both ablations (and will probably happen again on my third ;-). Takes a few weeks to months to clear but no long-term issues. If gets worse /inflamed / pain at site then check-in with health professionals.

Hi John, I’m a few days out of AV node ablation but had three others. Like others have said it’s pretty normal and will go down, I had it with one of mine and it took a few weeks to go down. I could feel it as uncomfortable but wouldn’t say painful. As others said if red or warm get help ASAP. Good luck with it x

Yes, I did although smaller than a walnut. Can't remember what causes it but I do remember being told to expect it. It should resolve. Check your post op leaflet on this. Obviously pay attention if it gets bigger and report it to your GP as well as the cardiology department who did the procedure

Yes I had a lump for both ablations, they did not leak the lump itself was not painful to touch and t disappeared over a couple of weeks.

Can also depend on what they seal the incisions with. One of my ablations was sealed with something that I could only describe as something akin to foam sealant. Left a hard lump in several places that took time to dissolve. Also had impressively large bruises. Current dr said they don’t use it anymore.
