Bisoprolol for Night time/Vagal AF

After a recent upswing in the number of episodes of AF i'm getting - up from every 2 or 3 months to almost every night - my GP is recommending that I take daily Bisoprolol rather than my previous PIP (Bisoprolol & Flec) protocol. It was my understanding that vagal AF could be made worse by a beta blocker regime?

Anyone in this position finding it helps or hinders?

Hi, I was first diagnosed with paroxysmal AF in Jan 2010 and had been on 5mg Bisoprolol since then till last year when it was upped to 7.5mg. By September 2011 it was clear my AF could be a vagal AF due to the way events occurred after food.

My AF has NOT worsened. I do have the added issue of being asymptomatic but even so I still have not returned to the care of a consultant.

In other words, life is as normal as it can be. Mind you, do remember we all respond differently to this and other drugs. Many cannot function with Bisoprolol at all.

I consider that a bonus!

I would always seek a cardiologists advice on new meds for frequent episodes.

I've been on 5mg of biosop for ages. Gradually the frequency of the episodes increased until I was put on Fleccainaide (sorry for spelling these wrong - dyslexia is a great disadvantage to people on medication). I hardly dare write this as it will all go wrong, but I haven't had an episode for over a year.

I am still tired, (I blame the beta blockers for that) but not having AF is like a miracle. I know it's not forever, but I'm greatly appreciating it while it lasts.

Apart from the tiredness, I don't think biosop did me any harm.

Hey Barny 12, bisoprolol was the last drug tried on me. I had arryhthmia a lot but drugs and i are intolerant . I just had to exist and put up with all the horrible stuff. All of a sudden over a couple days it cleared up but left me consistant palpitations and big thumps in the heart. I was given bisoprolol but after 4 days i could hardly walk and short breathed and could see if i didnt stop i would be back in hospital. After that the palps cleared up and i have almost been totally free from arrythmias and palptations. BUT i am so far left with an excersise intolerance after a lifetime of athletisism.

I go for walks and have accepted being downgraded in energy quite somewhat . I will keep working on it ,maybe time will heal everything again. Keep off drugs if poss, keep taking the blood thinner.

I think the Bisoprolol instigated a couple of 12 am - 2 am episode due to lowering my resting heart rate down to the very low 40s. I stopped taking it and the cardiologist and the EP didn't object.

Hello everybody? After long time over, I have just seen this post. My experience with Bisoprolol 2.5 was good. It was raised to 2.5 mg twice daily. But it reduced my BP to a greater extent. I was also taking Olmesartan 20 then. I took it for 3 years from 2016 to 2019. I was switched on to Ivabradine 5 mg twice daily in June 2019. Thereafter I never took Bisoprolol. Ivabradine reduced my heart rate. HR now lies 65-76 bpm. In between Nebivolol 2.5 mg was started instead of Ivabradine and Telmisartan 20. But later Ivabradine was advised to continue. I often feel knocking or thumping sensation in my chest. Reported to Cardiologist he advised me to stop Tea, Coffee totally as the caffeine triggers palpitations.
