Does anyone know if the animated red heart icon that is beating away when one takes a reading with the Kardia 6L is an image of what your pulse is actually doing (if you were able to take your pulse at the same time) ? I have noticed that mine is behaving irratically, long pauses, fast beats, slow beats. Not every time I take a reading thank goodness ! And, I am not feeling anything ............. !!
Hiya Buff ......... yes, it says NSR and the little red beating heart seems to be performing well ... nice steady beats. I don't take a reading very often only when I feel like death warmed up. I have noticed with some past readings the beats are quite irregular and it has posted possible AF. Just curious to know if, when the little red heart is beating if it is mimicing what the heart is actually doing. Never bothered that much before, just curious.
Hi John! Yes, on my 6l Kardia I’m pretty sure the red heart is beating along with my heart, doing whatever my pulse is doing. Hope yours stays nice and steady Jx
Hi Jane, thanks for that. Pretty much what I thought. In which case all I can say is wow! ...... when it does misbehave and you actually watch and see the irregularities by what that little red beating heart is doing (or not doing 😱) kinda makes you think. More so when I feel nothing going on at all, absolutely nothing. There again on other occasions I do feel like death warmed up.
Mine does. I can feel my heartbeats, though, and see the image pulsing in exact parallel with them, if a little behind. An irregular tracing will be either AF or a run of ectopic beats (PVCs). The app should say which but mine has been confused once according to the cardiologist I saw.
I find it a useful device as I get AF only irregularly but other arrhythmias frequently, so it is helpful to let me know what is going on.
Personally I don't watch the little heart and gawd help us if we follow the numbers as its algorithm tries to number crunch 😉. I've given up on doing that - you see a 40 whizz by followed by a 90 something and then it tells you you're in NSR at a decent rate by the end of it. I reckon the heart is just a graphic. Otherwise I'm pretty happy with mine. Just wish they'd stop fiddling with it.
