AV Node Ablation appointment.

Hello, not been around much but have been reading. I’ve been feeling a bit down with how things were going. I have permanent fast AF and had a Pacemaker at the end of June and was told I wouldn’t feel any benefit until after my AV Node Ablation which would be 4-6 weeks later. Unfortunately I had no news and found it impossible to contact my consultants secretary, leaving message after message and couldn’t get through to appointments either. It was really disheartening especially not knowing anything.t my last Pacemaker check a month ago they said I had 170 episodes of very rapid heartbeat in six weeks so the doctor there said he would follow up for me. After hearing nothing two weeks ago as instructed I phoned the device clinic again and they gave me an email address. I wrote explaining how bad I felt, dizzy and fatigued and that I would take a cancellation or anything. I finally got a call this week and my ablation will be 21st December . I feel much better knowing a date at last, I just wish their communication was better. I fully expected and understand the wait due to the obvious backlogs caused by Covid but feel so much better just knowing, Sorry for the moan and I do understand all the problems in the NHS but it’s hard when you are feeling so unwell not knowing.

Well done for being so persistent. It seems that is the only way to get things done on the NHS these days. I know they have been under a lot of pressure with Covid and have backlogs, but it is very frustrating for people like yourself, feeling so unwell.

If it’s any consolation, the private hospitals are no better. As with the NHS they seem to have reduced staff. I was trying to book a blood test yesterday and there was nobody from the pathology department to book my appointment. I am supposed to get a call today.

Good luck with your ablation on 21st December.

Thank you for your reply. I felt bad sending emails and phoning and don’t know if it helped or not. It’s hard knowing the strains the NHS are under all round. I’ve had to postpone a cataract op which happens to be two days before my Ablation, in our area the waiting list for that is very short for that cataracts and it’s done in a private hospital. Hope you get your call for your blood test appointment.

Sorry you are feeling so unwell, how frustrating for you but possibly your persistence has paid off. 21st December isn't far away now so fingers crossed that everything goes according to plan and you have a more peaceful Christmas.
