AV Node Ablation

Hi, I posted last week about having a pacemaker fitted 5 weeks ago

and my lack of progress since then. On Wednesday I attended the PM

clinic, seems all the activity I can feel is AF which has been almost constant

since having the PM fitted, plus some twitching which those with PM will

understand.

I then went on to see my EP, he didnt fit my PM as he was on holiday, why do

these things happen at the wrong time!! Evidently I have a 3 lead PM and

one of the leads is not efficiently placed, hes not happy with that and the

likelihood is it will need to be adjusted. The AF is obviously the main problem

and there are two ways to tackle it, cardioversion which may or may not work

plus Amiodorone, didnt look up the spelling before beginning this post 'oh dear' think you will all know what I mean. Its a drug which I have read about

and has nasty side affects, I know lots of them have. The trouble is Im not

very drug tolerant and have been quite ill on occasion. The other choice is

AV node ablation which has always been mentioned as the answer to my problems.

Because of my lack of any kind of progress with the PM alone I have accepted with some

relief the AV node ablation option. It was never what I wanted and I do know

that the results may not be perfect but my EP has convinced me that I should

feel much much better than I do at present. I just want to get on with the

rest of my life and have some fun with my family.

Thanks for all your help and good wishes to my previous post.

Oh Lyn I do so feel for you and if you read my post above you will

see why. I too have been watching the world go by from the side

lines. Im so sorry about the stroke and hope it hasnt left you with

any mobility issues which may slow down your progress. Im sure

you will find someone on this site who has had the same issues

and can help you.

What a lovely photo, you obviously have a very loving family which

I know speaking from experience is a big help.

More good wishes, hope it all gets sorted soon, so frustrating! I am having a 'falling apart' year, though nothing really serious, and waiting for several things to (hopefully) be fixed, it really is hard to get on with your life. We aren't ready to give up, are we?! 🏋

No way am I giving up we are only here once!! Im still going into

town on my own shopping, I cannot carry much and I stop and sit and

have a natter. I meet my husband at the supermarket, more seats

there plus plenty of people I know. It works well and although I am

very dependent on him at the moment it gets me out and about.

Thanks Buffafly.

I think do whatever gives you quality of life. If the A/V node path is the way then go for it. My dads neighbour had it done and is miles better than she was. Obviously thought it is your decision. Keep smiling. Hugs 👍

Bmwpaul 1971,

Thanks so much for your reply, just what I need to hear someone

had it and came out with good results. There is so much negative

comment about the procedure, its not what I would have chosen to

do but Im going on advice I trust.

Thanks again.
