Following a period of weight loss which sees me down to 42 kilo, my GP referred me to our local hospital π₯. It was arranged for me to have an endoscopy and the literature all confirmed that the tube would be inserted down my throat so that they could have a little look round my stomach to see whether there was anything untoward going on.
On Saturday morning a nurse rang to talk me through the procedure and to answer any questions I may have.
He asked whether I had received my pack and thinking he meant the leaflet, I said yes. He then asked whether I understood how to take the enemae (?) . At that point I got a bit bolshy and asked why I would need to clear my bowels when the tube was going down my throat! I explained that I had had a colonoscopy before and had a panic attack and didn't see why I needed it this time.
He then started to get angry with me and basically said I either have the procedure or he refers me back to my GP. It was at this point that I remembered a letter I had received a few weeks ago from the Consultant to my GP which confirmed that it was an Endoscopy . Fortunately it was on the system and he was able to read it and apologise for the booking teams error.
He apologised profusely and his final words to me were I'm glad we got to the bottom of this"! To which I responded "I'll be the butt of some family πͺ jokes!
