Repackaging of Apixaban

I have been taking Apixaban for several years. It has always been packaged in foil with 7 days of doses. This is good because I always start a new packet on a Monday. This allows me to check I am up to date with doses and has proved invaluable in he past when I can't remember if I took the correct dose earlier.

This week I got them packaged in 10 doses so I can't see if I am up to date with doses.

This might seem trivial but those of us with memory lapses have a problem.

Agreed, that's a little more inconvenient, Betablock, but maybe you could use one of those dosage boxes and apportion your Apixaban for the week, which is what I'll do if the packaging of mine changes.

Agree, I have to use a dosage container. Would never remember what I'd taken or not otherwise. Can get one from a chemist, or Amazon

Hi Betablock my new script was exactly the same. I mark each tablet in the sleeve with a Sharpie pen ie M T W etc AM & PM so I can keep track. I don't understand why 10 day sleeves?

I label all my pills with a sharpie pen whenever I start a new strip, or I'd lose track. I now take four different ones, twice a day, and they are all packaged differently! The Bisoprolol are the worst, packed in a 3 x 5 grid with one missing right in the middle to reduce the count to 14, i.e. one week's supply for me. They HAVE to be labelled!

Stuff the patients, let’s save some money!!

It does sound that way FlapJack but then I read almost immediately of a lady in USA who wanted desperately to get off warfarin and was only prevented from having Apixaban through her inability to pay the high cost of it. Sometimes in UK, despite the failings of our NHS, we forget how truly lucky we are.

Don’t disagree but I suspect this change was driven by the drug manufacturer and has nothing to do with the NHS……

Put my repeat prescription in next week so will be on the lookout. I use a dosset box for my pills anyway so it won't matter to me that much but it is awkward.

Use a seven day pill box and load each week. Simples.

Every time I get a hospital attendance invitation, they tell me to bring my pills "in their original packaging". That's such a pain as I have my supply organized in a zip lock bag with the days written on each foil with a sharpie.

In all my years of going to hospitals they have never yet asked to see my drugs though that request is often on the appointment letter!

I get 90 at a time in bottles. I have been using a pill box for years. It doesn't remind though so i use Alexa or my watch to "alarm" me.

I do this tooilregner and it's really effective. I chose a loud alarm sound on my smart watch for 10am and 10pm. Quite honestly it often startles me, but I never forget a dose!

I take the one at the top in the morning and the one at the bottom in the evening. I know it's silly but I get put out when, just occasionally, I don't take one and have a spare one. I leave it in the drawer and wait till I can match it up.

I couldn't manage without my 7 day dosage box, I am far too forgetful .

Someone once said you should not take pills out of their foil and put them in a container but this is easily solved by cutting the foils into individual pills with the scissors and then putting them into a container.

Never heard that, Ive been putting mine in a 7 day, am, pm, dosage container for a few years and I think many do the same.

Have still got the old style packaging with 7 on the left side and 7 on the right. Technique I use( not very scientific) is have package on coffee table in the morning, then put package on sofa straight away so it catches me eye in the evening to need to take my evening dose, then back on coffee table again. Ok won't win any noble prize for this, but does stop me forgetting to take it.

Twice a day

And the problem is, the GP prescribes 28 pills at a time, so they end up cutting bits off strips to make the correct number……🤬

My apixaban are still in the previous sensible packaging. Each week, on Sunday morning I organise my (8) meds into two one week dispensers marked ‘am’ and ‘pm’. Got them from the Poundshop a couple of years ago and they’re still going strong. I would probably over/under dose regularly without them!

My latest repeat has gone the other way. My strips were of 20 tablets and have now dropped to 14. I take the left hand one in the morning and the right hand one at night. Makes life easier for me.😊

I get 90 pills in a bottle so I use a pill container. When you do something for so long, you are not sure if you did or not so often I have to go look since I can’t be sure I am remembering correctly. I fill it up after I take the last pill Saturday night, so far, so good!
