Those people who have had a few cardio versions were you given amiodarone for any of them.

I don’t know if amiodarone is used for a first cardio version or not. Or if it’s used at all before or after one to help you stay in nsr. Or if it works like that.

Never needed it-- always good on the first bang.

I have probably had more than 20 cardioversions and like BobD I was returned to normal rhythm after the first zap.

They put me on Ameodarone on a separate occasion but it didn’t help and gave me lots of the listed side effects.

I had amiodorone for a few weeks before and a few weeks after my second CV. Then came off I think it was 6 weeks either side of the CV or thereabouts. Was never given to understand that I would stay on it. It is just something my team used for second CV. All my 3 of my CV's were successful keeping me in NSR on average for a year - 16 months was the longest.

I’m not medically trained but as I understand, amiodarone or something similar is generally only used when the first CV has failed totally or has only worked for seconds or a few minutes. Medics tend not to prescribe Amiodarone lightly and it seems unlikely they would use it for the first attempt unless an echocardiogram or some other scan has detected a defect which they believe will make the CV more unlikely to be successful. Often these scans are not used first so I guess that makes it even more unlikely……

I was offered amiodorone for my second cardioversion but I didn’t like the sound of the side effects so I opted for flecainide 3 weeks before treatment and my cardioversion was successful

I'm currently on amiodarone 4 weeks prior to cardioversion. Already been on it nearly 3 weeks. As people have said it's usually short term plan, not taken lightly. I'm having 2nd attempt at cardioversion. Had one in Sept on dronedarone rather than amiodarone and only lasted 2 days in NSR. Plan is to come off it soon as poss. Not expecting cardioversion to last but to create a slightly longer window to assess for ablation.

Yes as the one time I didn't, NSR only lasted 4 days. Still on it post ablation but have asked to come off it as I'm still getting AF.

I started taking Amiodarone on the 27th April and had a CV on the 31st August. Still on Amiodarone which I think is far too long.

I was not on amiodarone after my second ablation (I had four ablations-the fourth by a different EP and doing good. )No medications and had a watchman installed with a decreased dose of anti coagulant. Too many nasty side effects with amiodarone-glad to be off that

I was given Amiodarone on 5 Oct last year 200mg once a day. It slowed my heat rate to about 45 bpm. That was to low for me and I went back to the Doctor and he said that was the best he could offer. Suggested the dosage be reduced to 100 and that cleared up all issues I had. I have been on it for mare than a year now with zero afib conditions. I am very satisfied. By the way. I am now at age 89.

Two weeks after my ablation I had a horrendous AF episode that became atrial flutter and landed me in A&E. I was given a n Amioderone bolus and subsequently loaded up on the stuff! I had the listed side effects especially nightmares and loss of taste. I was on it for about two months. When I followed up with my EP his opinion was “why didn’t they shock you”! He took me off it!
