How long does it take to get your energy back after an ablation

My 80 yr old friend had 2 attempts at cardioversion and then an ablation in March. Since June she has been complaining about total loss of energy and has completely lost her mojo. Her cardio saw her last week and is happy with her heart and bp. I’m trying to get some idea of what is going on here. She swims every morning but by the afternoon she’s wiped out and has to lie down for 2 hrs. Has anybody had any similar reaction?

If you read our fact sheet on recovery you will see that many people are still improving at nine months or a year. The older you are the longer it takes.

I have never recovered my previous energy levels following my ablation in 2019, despite my cardiologist telling me much the same - that all is well. Some days, the fatigue is difficult to deal with but I do just press on. I have concluded that, despite the medical findings and assurances, that something beyond the ken or interest of the medical fraternity has happened and I am stuck with it.

Hiya, I love your friend at 80 is still going for a morning swim. Fingers crossed I’m able to do something similar. ❤️

With regards to energy levels after ablation we are all so different. I’m approaching 60 and prior to my ablation earlier on this year I was advised some returned to work next day but others took longer. I took a month off work. even after a bout 3 months I could have gone to bed after lunch.

When I returned to work I was still so wiped out. My cardiologist said that I when you have an ablation the heart needs time to recover from the shock of the treatment in addition to that I am also taking 5mg of bisoprolol which I’m advised can cause chronic fatigue. This has just been reduced to 2.5 and within a week I can feel the difference suddenly got a bit more oump

Your friend may be similar to myself and some of the drugs she is currently taking maybe making her feel wiped out. I was surprised when he told me the Bisoprolol causes chronic fatigue because it’s not actually listed as a side effect.

Hope your friend starts to feel bit brighter soon but get her to check meds. Also well with seeing GP for full bloods checking ferritin and thyroid. Xx

Has she had a blood check for anemia and b12?? I stopped improving and was tired post ablation and a check showed I was low b12. I reviewed my meds and was taking lansoprazole which was prescribed owing go me being on pradaxa( I think), and the prazole stops b12 absorption from the stomach which is where most of it is absorbed from normally. As I did not have reflux I ditched the lansoprazole and few weeks later felt a lot better . A blood check 3 months later was normal.

I'd ask my GP for a full blood test, including for the thyroid.
