New ST eye scan
Yes, I had this. The optician pointed out tiny spots and told me that she was obliged to write a letter to my doctor about it. I don't think anything happened until I had an OCT scan in February last year. That showed my epiretinal membrane to be very thick. She said she would refer me but not to expect anything very soon, three months at least. A fortnight later I was seen at the hospital and had a vitrectomy in November. Before the op when I saw the surgeon I mentioned the small bleeds but he wasn't interested.
My very small bleeds seem to be not very important but I guess it depends on how bad they are. I keep getting letters from Specsavers to have another test but I am waiting until the rate of Covid goes right back down again before I go out to the shops. I am not excessively nervous but I just don't need to go out for anything, so I don't
Sorry to hear about your eye problems Physalis and resultant vitrectomy last November. As if afib wasn't enough to contend with! I often wonder about having to take anticoagulants for the rest of my life as I do (xarelto)and possible internal bleeding. Thoughts of a stroke if not taken is even worse. Is the recovery period after a vitrectomy as bad as some relate to regarding staying immobile for a long period?I wish you the best of health now. My very first contribution to this wonderful informative site.
It wasn't that bad, I didn't have AFib by the time I had the vitrectomy. It was easy and I didn't have to position because I didn't have to have a bubble of gas in my eye. The only problem afterwards was itchy eyes and I think that was quite probably due to the drops they gave me.
The vitrectomy cleared up the thick epiretinal membrane but didn't do much good as my main problem is double vision. I have come to the conclusion that was caused by damage to the nerve when I had a fall in 2006. I tripped up the kerb while walking fast and went down flat on that side of my face.
People usually have to have a cataract op a year after a vitrectomy but that hasn't happened to me. I wouldn't want it anyway.
A timely post for me as for the last 28 hours I've had some symptoms which could be retinal detachment, but looking at symptoms of retinal haemorrhage - they're the same. Wasn't able to get any appointment today, but will be seeing someone at the hospital late tomorrow. Hopefully won't get worse before then. Hadn't thought that it could be the Apixaban but I have had more visual auras, and weirder ones, on it.
