Dry eye from Lercanidipine

I have been on Lercanidipine 20mg for just over 2 months now and seem to have tolerated it well enough. Have had sever reactions to several other blood pressure meds in the past. I have had chronic dry eye symptoms the last couple of weeks out of nowhere. Despite buying & using several ocular drops both orc & prescription I am getting no relief from it. I'm at my wits end & really depressed at the constant feeling of something in both eyes. I am wonderingif it could possibly be related to the Lercanidipine & wondered if anyone else has had this issue from this medication. Any advice will be gratefully received.

No experience with this med but do have dry eyes. The thing that has helped me the most is an eye pack you can heat in microwave. I use it every morning without fail while I drink morning tea and it has made a massive difference. After use gently massage lids top and bottom towards eye. It can make eyes blurry briefly but the relief is enormous.

If you want to impress you can call it meibomian dysfunction!!!

Maybe try drops preservative free. Only a suggestion.

No experience of med but:

1 Use eye pack or hot flannel in the morning for about 3 to 5 minutes.

2 Clean around eye with a solution of salt, bicarbonate and boiled cooled water. Make in a jar and keep for about a week before making up a new jar.

3 Use gel eyedrops. Try Viscotears. They contain carbomer.

That worked for me.

Do in morning and again before bedtime.

You can get an optrex over the counter cream that contains an antibiotic if you feel they may have become infected.

Mine are a lot better.

All good suggestions above - eyelid hygiene is really important so paying attention to llallym’s suggestions - warm pack or hot flannel & daily bathing - personally I use a gel product I get from the optometrist - Blaphagel + preservative free eye drop or even better - gel worked for me.

I have had dry eyes and use Carboner. It is preservative free and quite thick. I normally have to use it twice a day. I

I have persistent AF. My optician told my that mine was caused by a drop in blood pressure, (I do have low blood pressure sometimes and had it prior to the diagnosis of dry eye)

Carboner is available on most chemists but you have to ask for it as it is kept where the perscriptions. are kept, (UK)

I have had dry eye for years and use carbomer gel morning and evening and also celluvisc about 3 or more times in between. I have found the lercanidipine has made it much worse and have only been on it for 12 days.

Also dry tongue and mouth. Could it be the lercanidipine?
