If you need urgent care in the UK, then the best way to receive the most appropriate service, in a safe and timely way, is to contact 111. Your NHS 111 advisor or clinician will be able to assess you on the phone and, if needed can direct you to or book an appointment with a GP, pharmacist, urgent treatment centre, or can book a direct time slot at A&E. They may also be able to give you the advice you need without using another service. However, if you do have life-threatening illnesses or injuries then you should continue to dial 999. Arrhythmia Alliance are here to help and support you too, if you require any support or advice about your condition, please visit heartrhythmalliance.org/afa... or contact the Patient Services Team on info@afa.org.uk or call the Charity helpline 01789 867 502

It absolutely works TracyAdmin and they are so kind and efficient when it's anything urgent to do with Afib or other emergencies that don't require an ambulance.

So glad I saw this here today. I have just told my sister to dial 111 for my nephew - he lost part of his leg in an accident (not his fault) at age 17 he's in his 40's now and his other leg is very swollen and red and they just cannot get anyone to see him. I am fighting the urge to tell her for goodness sake do something before he doesn't have a leg to stand on - so sorry for that but it's been at the back of my mind all the time - oh dear!

My sister and her family are not proactive and would wait days/weeks for a call back whereas I would call back the next day if I had been promised a call back that day. Takes all sorts but because of this she and her family have had lots of problems they wouldn't have had - you would think they would have learnt from that by now. If I lived closer I would do it but don't know their Drs. In fact years ago got my MP to intervene in my sister's hospital saga - did write to hers also but he didn't do much but my MP sent my letter on to the Health Minister and got something done.

The service is not good in all areas, in my part of the country 111 is found to be "consistently inadequate" particularly in staff training and response times.

Yes it's not always been good here but is much better now. I live hundreds of miles away from my sister so can't do much to help but if I knew who their GP was I would ring.

Last time I called 111 I was told someone would ring me back and they never did. After 2 and a bit hours My husband had to drive me 7 miles to the hospital, and it was a major town and large hospital.
