Wonderful thankyou luckily my cardiologist has listened and changed me to carvedilol today
Most of us here are not medically trained Maxemes so it’s both dangerous and unwise to suggest changes to prescribed medication. I think it’s a bit unusual for a medic to just say what the maximum dose is for Bisoprolol then kind of leave it up to the patient to decide what dose to take. The normal procedure for most rate drugs is to start low then progressively increase until heart rate and blood pressure reach optimum levels. As far as alternatives are concerned, there are a number of different beta blockers available and a small number of alternative calcium channel blockers. It might be a good idea to find out if there is an Arrhythmia Nurse attached to the hospital where you are having the ablation. They are generally very knowledgeable and well informed and it’s much easier for them to double check with your EP when it comes to problems with medication.
It will be interesting to hear what others here say but it sounds very unsatisfactory that you have not had specific advice about dosage, apart from anything else, how does your GP know what dose to prescribe……..hopefully the change to Carvedilol will solve your problems.
Yes I was advised to take it like pill I’m a pocket starting at 2.5mg and if that hasn’t worked after say 3 hours to take another following this pattern up to 10mg I’m a 24 hour period this was from cardiology whilst I was at the hospital that I’m under
PiP regimes are very different to regular daily dosage arrangements - another reason why we have to be so careful when talking about medication! Hopefully you will soon be at the top of the list for your ablation. Just in case you haven’t seen them I’ve added links to two AF Association factsheets which provide useful information about preparing for, and recovering from an ablation. All the best and please let us know how you get on…….
I was only on 1.25mg bisop but i had chest and arm pain along with extreme tiredness, and breathlessnes. I could not run, max hr was 117 from memory, but my normal hr was much reduced. I was able to switch drugs.
I was given bisoprolol two years ago when I had tachycardia resulting from atrial flutter, as well as once when I had a dreadful prolonged bout of fibrillation. It did very little for the flutter but stopped the fibrillation. Since then, I've taken it now and then for tachycardia. Like you I get ectopic beats, but not enough to worry me.
Much as you describe. the drug also caused me to have chest discomfort and a feeling of needing to breathe deeply. This added to the anxiety I felt during the whole of the time I had the arrhythmias and, in a way, I was never able to separate the drug's effects, the arrythmia's effects, or the effects caused by anxiety. I was also given a small dose of digoxin, which controlled the tachycardia from the flutter far better than the bisoprolol.
Presumably, in your case, there's a reason to control your PVCs as these are otherwise usually benign, hence the need for a beta-blocker. Life can be very difficult with arrhythmias, I know that.

Hi hidden, Bisoprolol can sometimes aggravate asthma and other chest condition.
Yes Hidden ,Cardiologists were very keen for me to go on Bisoprolol and I felt like a zombie on it especially when the dose was doubled so came off it .Put back on it 4weeks ago after a gap of a year ,but this time I read the leaflet inside packet which said must be taken with food for the medication to react —I have found that NOW I have no adverse reactions as previously ,because then I was taking the pill first thing in the morning about half an hour before breakfast .—Maybe this could be your problem too .Best of luck .RedRose
Yes I had the breathing issues. Like you couldn't seem to get the air in. Awful feeling. My heart rate also too low which made my daily walk like that of a 90 year old. Stopped it after chat with GP. Tried me on carvedilol and was exactly the same. On Verapimil now. Not breathing or exersices issues but it's set my tinnitus off big time. Rather that than the awful gasping for air.
