Now bradycardic on Bisoprolol

I was reviewed by my cardiologist a couple of weeks ago and we are classifying my AF as permanent. Therefore he has stopped amiodarone and started bisprolol. My resting heart rate used to be in the 70s now it’s in the 40s. I don’t feel my usual self - I am more anxious and stressed. Do you think this is the change in heart rate making me feel unsettled?

I am sure of it, that’s a low HR.

Please go see your GP as Bisoprolol can have very debilitating affects. As Biso is also an adrenaline inhibitor it can affect anxiety and mood.

Yes .Not acceptable. Please see your GP about changing your dose or drugs as this is far too slow.

My heart rate went down to 40's and as low as 36 on low dose of bisoprolol too. It made me feel far worse than the Afib ever did and I was far better off without it. In fact I only went to A&E when expeiencing the low heart rate etc and had never gone with just Afib as managed to wait out until I could get to the GP surgery. We tried different doses and different rate control medications in different doses and combinations by my cardio - in the end low dose digoxin seemed to work but after my first successful cardioversion even though I reverted into Afib and am now in permanent Afib I was never put back on digoxin or any rate control medication by my EP. at the moment just on Eliquis and doing well.

Definitely go to your GP and get the dose or medication changed.

My EP took my off Bisoprolol because I had Bradycardia.

You should speak to your EP as soon as possible.

Hi I'm on bisoprolol 1.25 the min dose. I would think your dosage is too high and needs reviewing. My heart rate hovers around 50 bpm but I can't take a lower dose but manage OK just. I get chest pains and post ablation still have PAF so as per advice from everyone do get your meds reviewed

The lowest dose pill might be 1.25 mg but some people still find this too much. When I was on Bisoprolol I used to cut this in half. Fiddly but possible. I now take Nebivolol which has less side effects.

Yes Auriculaire you are right. I only just tolerated this low dose. They keep trying to put me on nitrate meds but resisting so far. It's been prescribed but I'm not taking it. The headaches from nitrates are worse than the chest pain it's suppose to help. Plus being lightheaded and dizzy so I can't drive if I'm suffering like that.It's been a struggle to convince the doctors that I do suffer with chest pain with my PAF and a few months ago I had a cardiac mri which was done on one of the new scanners at St Thomas which is AI assisted. It did show I had scarring and had suffered a heart attack in the past which the doctors upto that point had said I hadn't had one so now my head is all over the place because I do have constant pain but do I want to suffer 20 hours waiting in A&E only to be told we can't find anything and sent home.

Any issues with bisoprolol need re assessing and doses adjusted if its needed .
