So on Friday night, I went to be with AF, I took a Flecainide and tried to sleep. I work up in the night very hot and sweaty. After finally getting some sleep I work up still experiencing AF. Doing some regular checks on my Apple Watch my heart rate was fluctuating between 70 - 202 for no reason. During the morning I took a further two Flacainide which didn’t do anything to reduce the AF. Late morning, I then called the NHS on 111. They asked me the usual questions, and then someone called me back. I was still in AF, so she called an ambulance. I was taken to A&E where I spent over 12 hours on a trolley being monitored. They really struggled to get my heart rate down. At one point they put me on a Magnesium Drip and injected some meds into me, but that dropped my heart rate too low and I passed out. I work up with an oxygen mask on and they were injecting medication into me to reverse the previous medication. After a long day and evening I was sent home with beta blockers. I have now arranged to meet with my cardiologist. I had a Cardioversion in November 2018, I now think a second is needed.

A&E Experience
Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us - I am sorry to hear of the traumatic events that unfolded over the weekend. I hope you are beginning to recover now? Kind regards, Tracy
Have you seen an Electrophysiologist who actually specialises in AFib? You are so lucky that the cardio version lasted so long.
Not a pleasant experience for you. I wonder what drug you were given....Adenosine? Its all so exhausting isn't it ?!Hope you don't have to wait too long for your cardioversion.
Regards
J
Sounds like a very scary and stressful experience.
You did absolutely the right thing going in to have it looked at, I hope you get some answers or a follow up
Good grief your experience sounds such a scary time. I can’t give any advice but am pleased you have an appointment with cardio....Sue
Goodness what a frightful weekend! Glad you are doing better. These situations are so stressful both mentally and physically.
UKDamon, that would be absolutely exhausting. Similar tjings hsppen to me but not as fast as 202 at rest. I wouldnt bother with tje cardioversion. Didnt work for me and i am drug intolerant. I jave atypical flutter and go in and oit of afib now and again. I have had a suitable pacemaker implanted i prep for a AV node ablation. I found comfort about that after reading others experiences on here. I came to the conclusion i really dont have much choice.I really feel for you brother. Your not alone. Its early morning here in NZ and im going through a ptetty severe attack of palpitations as i write . Best wsy to endure it is to get up and try and do something like writing this letter. All the best to thrbest solition for you.
Hope you are feeling much better now. What comes to mind from your post:Sounds like you are taking Flecainide as a PIP, maybe it should be daily.
I have never gone to bed with AF; if I have a 'pre-AF' feeling I always stay up until its gone as lying flat or on the left can exacerbate the situation.
Over the last 7 years I have had very little AF but when I have had it I have stopped it by brisk walking or sitting listening to a steady heart beat on YouTube or gulping a cold drink from the fridge.
When I was in hospital with AF, I think they gave me Flecainide intravenously.
Hope something there helps and you keep well.
