Help! I was diagnosed wit PAF in March and put on Sotalol 80 mg 2x a day. The side effects are terrible. I am dizzy, stomack pains, exhausted, can't walk more then 30 yards without feeling like I am going to faint and my heart rate jumps from 65 to between 105 to 120, and my blood pressure is up too. Cardiologist finally agreed that I can go back on Bystolic 5 mg 1x daily. Any experience with stopping Sotalol one day and starring a new beta blocker the next? I am all nervous about this constant medication change.

Sotalol
Pleased you are switching as Sotslol not used much now. No info about process but you should be fine.
Hi Roma.
It's normal to be concerned when you have a med change - I think we all are. However I've had a change recommended in the past by my cardio (when I thought maybe I should be weaned off) but all was fine. That was a beta blocker too and the worry soon passed. I'm sure your cardio wouldn't suggest it if there was cause for concern.
I hope the change of med works for you
Paul
I feel absolutely nothing from sotalol … same dosage as you. I feel perfectly normal.

When I was switched from Sotalol to Flecainide I was just told to stop that day and start the following day ( break of 24 hrs )
I started on Diltiazem the same day as the Flecainide and still taking it even thou have stopped the Flecainide.
I also found Sotalol a disagreeable drug , nausea and extreme tiredness the whole time I was on it.
hmmmmm, I am constantly tired; just figured working too many hours.....
I was on it for nearly six years and have been of it for going on six years.
Dont get the afternoon drowsiness and morning nausea since it was stopped.
I often only sleep six to seven hours and dont flag, the difference is quite remarkable since coming off it.
My Cardiologist called it a dirty drug in that its side effects are ongoing.
I'm on sotalol 80mg twice a day and I feel tired a lot of the time and not even sure if they work at all as I still get AF and atrial flutter.
Hi Patsywoo, I am very similar to you. Only been on Sotalol a few weeks and take 80mg twice a day. I feel pretty awful on it too and still get flutter alot and Afib. I even have to take the second tablet earlier than 12 hours as flutter and Afib break through after about 8 hours. I either think it's not working or I need a higher dose. So I sympathize with you.
I don't have any issues. I take one in AM and one just before bed. My problem was with my BP meds; those made me terribly dizzy.
I too had similar problems with sotalol!
