I saw my cardiologist last week and because of the increase in my AF episodes and continuing ectopics felt that a change of medication would be advisable and wanted me to start taking 25mgs of metoprolol 3 times a day to start with I’ve been taking 80mgs of Sotalol twice a day for 7 years following a cardiac arrest and had a stent fitted I’m a bit worried because I thought you couldn’t just stop Sotalol and start the new medication without gradually lowering the dose and I didn’t ask him and now he’s on holiday so I’ve continued to take Sotalol can any come off Sotalol abruptly and onto a new beta blocker

Sotalol
When I changed from Flecainide to Sotalol I had to leave a gap of three days when I took neither drug. I would ask your pharmacist for advice.

When your guy goes on holiday doesn't he leave a colleague to care for his patients or aren't things done that way in the UK?
My cardiologist just told me to stop Sotalol ( I was on 2 x 80mg ) and start Diltiazem 240mg the next day - so all I missed was the evening dose of Sotalol.
But I havent had a cardiac arrest or a stent fitted so maybe check with any Cardiac Department of a major Hospital re: the correct way to change.
My local GP will ring any specialist to confirm any drug change if there is a query from me.
HI there
I was taking Metoprolol for a few years after my stent was fitted. After a couple of AF events my a new Dr swapped me to metoprolol which I believe is a preferred treatment to bisoprolol - sort of the next upgrade from Metoprolol so I am wondering why he would suggest that instead? I went straight from one top the other but You are obviously not talking about that.
Might be worth asking about Bisoprolol.
Cheers
