Fit test

Hi , to all those kind folk who responded to my post regarding a positive fit test and concern about anticoagulants .

I had my colonoscopy yesterday which was a very simple and painless procedure which identified nothing more than a 2mm polyp just above the sigmoid colon .A massive relief obviously after 2 weeks of anxious waiting .There was no evidence of any bleeding in the colon so no answer as to why blood showed up in my sample and no answer as to the change in bowel habit that prompted my GP to refer me. Curious but that just leaves me with AF to worry about 🙂

That's good to hear that all is well. A nurse friend of mine once told me that certain things that we eat can falsely record as blood from the bowel, think carrots was one of them.

I was informed that the FIT test can only recognise human blood and nothing in a diet can affect the result. That was the consultant who carried out the procedure, but swallowing blood from bleeding gums, nosebleeds etc and infection of the gut or hemorrhoids can be a source she said .

It's a newish test so we are all still learning 🙂
