I woke up this am and reread a lot of what was posted last night about Oyster/ Badger/etc. I've decided for me it's not important who someone is or what their posting motives are; like all of us they are looking for ways to make their a-fib journey easier. I don't think there are any malicious people posting here-at least to my knowledge- just people asking for needed help in various guises. So I will answer in ways that I hope might help. As those of you who read my posts are aware I very often leave the med details to others and try to read between the lines to help with the emotional tolls that afib and other worries in life cause us all. That's because I believe that physical problems, for me, are often easier dealt with than day to day emotional situations life comes to us all-especially me. At this point in my life emotional and spiritual hiccups are more important for me than physical situations. So I will continue to try to help where I can in ways that are meaningful to me.It doesn't matter who you are or what names(s) you choose. I especially liked some comments from CDreamer which prompts me to send a saying posted in my kitchen; have had it for years. Sometimes it's hard for me to live up to but here it is: It is has been attributed to the philosopher 'PLATO" milennia ago, "BE KIND. EVERY.ONE IS FIGHTING A HARD BATTLE." Thanks for listening. Well said Burma!
Irina 1975,
A lovely post which is neither boastful or self effacing just right from the heart..
Carol.
Well said - we are on a similar wave length methinks. I can’t do emos on this device but wave from Devon, Uk.
We are! I'm not that computer literate. I keep telling myself "The computer is my friend." but I have my doubts.
great post Irina and I, too believe we need to close this debate down, even though I have also contributed to it! My main concern was that genuine newcomers might be mislead or become confused, right at the time they least need it. I was far less worried about banging on to someone who was taking me for a ride, after all, thats been true for donkey's years!!
As some of you know, I posted my views yesterday because I thought it was still going on, now I'm not so sure and probably, I will never know but to be honest, is really that important. I had a number of replies patting me on the back, but there were also some, from members, whose opinions I value greatly, suggesting other aspects worthy of consideration. After thinking things through, I decided to delete the post which I believe was the right thing to do. I'm no shrink, I don't know how my brain operates most of the time, so I haven't got a clue how you deal with this sort of thing, but I doubt using normal logic is going to do it and trying to reason is not going to work either. The powers that be who run the forum are between a rock and a hard place. Obviously you cannot restrict access to a public forum and its impossible to police is 24/7, but there are safeguards to report irresponsible posts and we know that when necessary, posts can be removed. The alternative is unthinkable!!!
There are things we can do to try and identify a suspicious post. If it's a name you are not famiiar with, check the date of joining and if it is "today" make a judgement as to whether or not the content looks as though it has come from a new member and we can report it. If in doubt, do nothing, wait and see how the post develops or just do what you would normally do, the choice is yours, but we cannot get uptight about a persons right to post.
Personally, I think the organisers could do more to make new members aware that of the risk of bogus posts, but that is for them to consider, but given what we have seen thus far, it is unlikely that anyone will come to any harm if we all just carry on as normal just like Irina suggests, which is exactly what I am going to do from now.............
Thanks flapjack. Your advice is helpful to me. And you're right. Let's move on. Am going to have a fun Sunday today; a little nap, a little of Doc Martin on acorn tv and then some Downton Abbey on public tv. The only thing missing will be a GUINNESS! LOL
Cheers......enjoy your evening
SPOT ON AND APPRECIATED!!
I feel the forum has been a little quiet since the outing of badger and co. and I think it is because some of us are being a little cautious. I will carry giving advice where I have some knowledge of matters. It is very important to help those who are new to AF tp help them through their journey to a better understanding of AF and all that they can do to help themselves with life changes ect. Keep up the goos work.
Cassie
Thank you for your lovely and thought-provoking post. Irina. Annel

Agree that many people need the benefit of the doubt, like a lot of things "do no harm" is very important
