I have been off my rivaroxiban for 3 weeks following 4 nosebleeds in May - the last one at night & needed medical help to stop plus I have no memory of the incident - started it 2016 & been fine until last month
Now I am due to restart the drug but am very apprehensive- will I have more horrendous nosebleeds
Has anyone experienced similar incidents - I need some help
Thanks

I take Warfarin and at the time I blamed that, but it was probably made worse by my anxiety because of the bleeding which took my blood pressure up and made matters worse.
Nowadays, I take care, don't blow my nose so hard and wash my face and around nose area gently. It was so traumatic with the bleeding not stopping and I was convinced that once I restarted Warfarin it would all happen again. I'm pleased to tell you it didn't.
Sorry to hear this. Quite alarming for you. My daughter had a nosebleed that wouldn’t stop years ago ( not ac related) and had to be hospitalised and after that we used to make sure we had packing materials handy as slight weakness from area where bleed had been. All went well snd able to stop things abd doesn’t happen now. Just have things handy and apply pressure straight away if needed. Good luck. Meds won’t have caused the bleed but just slowed the clotting when the bleed occurred
Maybe you should consider changing to a different DOAC......
I know this is not Rivaroxaban but my uncle was on Warfarin for many many years and started getting regular nosebleeds last year. His GP changed him to Apixaban and he hasn't has a nosebleed since.
A change of anticoagulant may be an option for you
Hi, I had a very bad reaction to Rivaroxaban in the form of a really bad rash on my back which I had for a few months. The itching was driving me crazy and some of the rash would ooze blood. I asked to have my anticoagulant changed to Apixaban and within a few days the rash started to clear up and after a few weeks was virtually gone.
I would really suggest asking if you can change your anticoagulant, this may well solve your problem with nosebleeds. It is at least worth a try. Even though the 4 main types of newer anticoagulants seem to have a similar effect re anticoagulation, there seem to be some differences between them which do result in divergent side effects for different people. In a 4 April 2020 scientific paper here; ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161... Rivaroxaban was found to have a much higher risk of bleeding compared to Apixaban. Steve
I would ask GP to change to a different anticoagulant. I was on Rivaroxaban but it caused massive internal bleeding, now I take Apixaban and all fine so far.
