Exercise after ablation

I'm having an ablation on Wednesday and wondered if there was a guide to exercising in the weeks/months afterwards? I know the first week will be 'Do nothing' but I'd like a rough idea how quickly or slowly I can go walking afterwards.

Thanks for the link. I think I'll take it day by day for the first few weeks.

Does anyone else have problems opening links from this site? They don't open unless I copy and paste them into a new browser window.

The factsheet will give you a good idea about exercising after your ablation, very often folk feel significantly better and wonder what all the fuss is about but it’s easy to underestimate the trauma that your heart has been exposed to. In most cases, the thigh will be black and blue so it’s not difficult to imagine what the inside of your heart is likely to look like. After the second week, light walking is normally fine but listen to your body. Hope all goes well on Wednesday and please let us know how you get on.......

The big theme seems to be that an ablation cannot be known to have failed or succeeded for at least 3 and possibly 6 months . So I guess that this helps with when can fully / unfettered normal exercise resume . I would say be careful fir 3 months and be really careful for the first month.Having read many posts in the past some things seem to have set back ablatees more than others, moving heavy objects seems a thing that is best avoided for a couple of months.

I’m just past 6 months from my ablation and despite feeling a bit unfit because of lack of exercise I feel able to do what I want now

I'm 67. Have had 4 ablations. Recent one in OCT.

Was a long-distance brisk walker of 60 to 70 miles a week prior to ablation. Was back to that level 2+ weeks post ablation. Did have a week of mild ectopic beats that faded after a week of backing off.

Now, I just take each day as I feel. If I have energy .... I do my 10 to 12 miles ..... if I'm tired, I take a shorter walk or just rest.

I wasn't as tired after this one as I was after the ones I had 10 years ago. I felt quite energetic after 2 weeks. I was walking at 1 week post ablation, but taking it easy. Ramped it up on week 3.

Everyone is different. I had a top EP and they said no restrictions on exercise or physical activity after 1 week. Just did 12 mile walk today ... and worked in the yard after I got home. No problems, but probably sleep well tonight.

I am a couple days shy of 5 weeks post ablation. I still cannot walk that far without getting exhausted. I have good days and bad days. Everyone is truly different. Don’t over do it. Good luck!

Everyone is different. Listen to your body. After my ablation I was doing light gym after 3 weeks and probably back to my previous routine after 6 weeks.
