I am going for my ablation in less then a week, no one has mentioned to me about staying still afterwards I finally asked my Doctor on a email and he confirmed that i have to stay still for 4 hours I am annoyed he did not tell me before The the only reason I knew about staying still after ablation is this site, I feel like I should have been told this before in my many visits with him,am I overreacting?

Yes, you are over reacting. :). But seriously, the requirement to lie on your back for 4 hours after the ablation is to reduce the possibility of bleeding in the groin incision. It is not comfortable, but it is not horrible. Bring some headphones and something to listen to on your phone. They will also provide any discomfort relief you may need and I was able to talk my nurse into letting me sit up more after a few hours. Just chill and know that it is not forever, and it is worth it. You can do this and it will be worth it! Let us know how you are doing. We are all here ready to support you.

Yes to answer your question you are over reacting but you are probably anxious, I know I was. You will be fine, they do so many of these procedures that they have it down to a fine art. Your Doctor probably didn't mention it to you because it's not part of his part of the process. You will be in recovery and he will be on to the next patient. You can have visitors or watch Tv, scratch your nose, just don't move your leg. Piece of cake really. Pam

It's not something I ever got told pre op for my ablations. It was frustrating when I only found out post procedure.

Yes. I suspect this is all to do with your anxiety levels. We do mention it in our fact sheets on preparing for and recovering from ablation which we have been advising you to read for a long time

Yes.....maybe you should try and stop all these negative issues you keep raising and try to focus on the benefits you will get from having the ablation. Of course having an ablation can be daunting and you are right to have considered all the issues but now is the time to keep positive thoughts...

I’m sure you have been told about these factsheets, they tell you everything you need to know from a patient’s perspective and how best to cope with lying still.

We were all anxious and apprehensive but the team at the hospital are very good at helping you through this.

Are you worried about discomfort due to lying on your back?

I was well propped up on pillows so could use my phone, watchTV, read and eat the evening meal. I could lie on my side.

My only problem was needing a wee after a couple of hours. They rolled me on to my side. Slotted a deep metal tray under me then rolled me back.

Not dignified for me but routine for them.

I had no bruising and no bleeding.

Best wishes.

I just can't understand why anyone on here is worried about lying flat for 4 hrs after an ablation! It's probably not mentioned before the procedure, because it's such a minor thing.

Sorry, but this subject is always being talked about on this forum and words just fail me!

The lying flat after my first ablation caused me severe back pain. So for the next one I asked if I could have the bed raised a little and was told of course. Result, no back pain.
