Low Diastolic

Morning all . PAF very few episodes and a naturally low heart rate and blood pressure. I take 1.25 Bisoprolol . My Diastolic and heart rate are running at mid 50s and I'm having dizziness twice nearly passed out. My GP said in the past to try taking it every other day. Does anybody out there use the same method. DONT say consult your GP because I've been trying for days to get through and they are even disconnecting the calls if it rings too long. Carnt even get pharmacy to answer ither. Many thanks .

Well I know what I would do to cure that problem, but can't advise you I'm afraid.

That's dreadful that you cant contact your surgery. I rang mine on Monday and was through straight away and GP called me back a few hours later. Glad I live out in the sticks! If you do ever manage to speak to your GP ask if you can stop taking the Bisoprolol and only take it when you have an attack.

Hope you can get some positive advice.

Jean

Thanks Jeanjeannie. What you said about Bisoprolol as a PIP sounds perfect as my last episodes was 7 months ago and 10 months before that. I managed to speak to the pharmacy and he said every other day was ok and to keep a graph for a week. If its still low I will do what you said . I have an appointment to see a cardiologist next month so will ask him. It will be the First timeI will have seen one since I was diagnosed 6 years ago and that only happened because I requested it by sending a letter to my GP and asked for a review. They carnt ignore anything in writing ! Many thanks.

I have no medical training, so please just go by the advice of those that do have.

Let us know how you get on please.

Time to discuss alternative dose or alternative drug or PIP with a cardiologist not a GP, unless you have an exceptional one. You don't want your diastolic that low.

Thanks secondary. Its the third day of one off one on Bisoprolol and I feel better already. Diastolic has gone into mid sixtys now . I see Cardiologist for a review next month so will ask him about using it as a PIP. Makes sence as my as my episodes are so rare.

I was asked to reply to you so:When a doc at my surgery prescribed Bisoprolol 2.5mg to be taken daily soon after my diagnosis, knowing how sensitive I am to drugs I asked to take half the dose (1.25 mg) so she agreed but did not arrange a follow up. The pharmacist at Boots seeing it was the first time I had been prescribed such things took my phone number so he could check up on me and said I should contact him if I had any problems. After three days of feeling increasingly tired I popped in to see him. He took my pulse and told me to stop taking the stuff and to see the doc and he must have phoned the surgery as I got seen straight away(!) and the doc ( not the first one) took my pulse and agreed. We are all different and eventually doctors may realise that! Do hope you find what works for you. I had to see an electrophysiologist privately to get help and he prescribed flecainide which I take as a PIP ( pill in the pocket) as and when I have an episode checked on my Kardia and then a bisoprolol if the heart rate is over 140 after twenty minutes. The flecainide is supposed to prevent episodes if taken daily but didn’t seem to work at that for me though episodes never last very long with variations of this method!

Thanks Sandi. Your right in everything you say. Because my Heart Rate and diastolic are naturally low I feel I shouldnt be taking it anyway. When I see the Cardiologist next month I will see what he says. My PAF has reduced considerably since I was diagnosed 6 years ago but ive never had a review so I asked to be referred. Could be a totally differant treatment plan now you sound very proactive. Good.

Do try to get the opinion of an electrophysiologist as the ordinary cardiologists are the plumbers and we need the electricians- I had my first short call from an NHS electrophysiologist four years after diagnosis - and nothing further for three months! I received a copy of the letter he sent to the surgery so he may well hear from me before that!!

Sandi . I asked Doc about that and he refused. I paid to see an EP 2 years after diagnosis though. I dont expect much to come out of this visit but l do have questions to put to him. Hopefully get an ultrasound. That and holter where clear 6 years ago but things can change. Just want to check.

Isn’t it an echocardiogram that looks at your heart? I had one four years ago and my heart was fine so it is just the electrics that were the problem. My Kardia is very useful and my heart is doing much better since I’ve been given something for acid reflux and stopped taking supplements I had been taking. Hope it continues to stay calm and that yours does too

Nerja2012 I have been on Bisoprolol 7.5,s for several years but I am also on a whole cocktail of tablets for other ailments as well. Luckily I have not suffered any side affects at all. I am sorry that I cant be of any use to you but the only comment I can make is that everyone is different and react differently. It is usually trial & error that solves the problem.

If you or anyone has to take it again- do NOT take every second day. The half-life is too short for that. You might get rebound tachycardia. Split the pills, that is the way. And reduce every three weeks, not faster.

Nettecologne. Ive cut the pills in half today and will start tonight. It was the pharmacist who told me to. Seemed odd ! Thanks for that.
