Faster pulse after ablation

Hi,

I had a cryo-ablation 6 months ago, so far all is good and trouble free.

Whilst not worrying, I have noted that my resting pulse rate, which has always (i.e. as long as I remember) been around 60-65 increased to 75-80 at the time (literally) of the ablation and has remained at this higher rate since.

After 3 months, I was advised to discontinue Bisoprolol and Amiodarone. Doing so had no effect on pulse rate, which remained high, (but it did not climb any higher).

Of course, it's not so fast as to be abnormal (other than for me) and I understand that a temporary increase is usual, but, is 6 months still too early to assume it's becoming permanent or should I investegate?

It would be interesting to compare other experiences.

Quite normal as we exxplain in our fact sheet on recovering from ablation. It can take six to nine months or even longer to return to a lower level.

I used to have a HR of 55-60. After my ablation it went up to about 75 and took at least a year to start slowly coming down. Even now, 10 years later, it is still around 65. So nothing to worry about.

My pulse is still higher 3 years after my ablation. I seem to have a variable resting rate that does decrease if I am fitter/ do more exercise, but generally sat down doing nothing I am around 80 where pre AF / ablatiion I was around 70. I am not worried as I don't have AF since the ablation, but maybe you should mention this to your EP to get his thoughts on it and put your mind at rest.

I had an ablation 3 weeks ago and the week after, my resting pulse has gone from 50s up into 80s. I understand this is par for the course so will run with it (not literally 😁) until I have my follow up in a couple of months. I do get the I'd pulse surge too so I'm hoping all will settle sooner rather than later.

Thanks for all the replies. I had missed the part about timescale in the fact sheet. I'm more curious than worried, it's interesting that nothing changed when the bispolrol was stopped, as I would have expected an increase then. I guess each of us reacts a little differently.

KMRobbo & Ducky2003 I've been fortunate and had no real difficulties since my ablation, those I did have settled within 4-6 weeks (other than the pulse rate, which though unusual, doesn't affect me 'operationally'). I agree, overall a small price to pay compared to my previous situation with Afib 😀

Best wishes to all.

My pulse has gone up from 51 before my ablation, to 73. It's now 5 weeks after the ablation, and it's still at this rate which I believe is normal. The first few weeks after it was in the 80s.

I have found Hawthorn Tea, made from leaves and flowers as opposed to berries, and which is in the Pharmacopaiea of a number of countries, has been a very good alternative to bisoprolol. However in my case I suspect it riggers timmitus. That's personal experience of course so check with your doctor before taking it with or without any other betablocker

My resting heart rate rose straight after ablation and slowly reduced to a midway between before and after, currently 4 months after ablation
