As anyone suffered very high spikes in blood pressure. I can go days with very good BP readings . However, some days I get really high readings over a few hours. I’m worried about underlying health issues . My BP monitor is accurate and I can’t pin down any causes . I’ve read that tumours on the adrenal gland can cause this .

High BP
I had this last year when my thyroid was inflamed diagnosed with Hashimoto's and BP now settled
How high are the readings?
Thanks for the reply . They go very high, I’ve sort medical advice . Sometimes a tumour on the adrenal gland can cause spikes. Normal one day and then very high the next .
Blood pressure fluctuates all day long. Might be normal.
Yrs understand that . This is massive spikes . One day normal the next very high . Might be adrenal gland problem.
I have very variable blood pressure. It can be very low after strenuous excercise , and quite high when stressed. 15 months or so after my ablation I presented my GP with 18 months measurements recorded on my omron. Multiple measurements per week, from before my ablation to the then current readings . I cannot exactly recall the numbers ( they are on my PC ) but the range was something like 150/105 down to 90/62 . She said "normal variation" AND "don't take your blood pressure so often!"Worrying / stress makes blood pressure higher. That includes worrying about your blood pressure! Self generating.
I am not medically trained. You need to refer to a doctor with your concerns and get feedback or get tested should your doctor think there is an issue, but try not to stress over it in the meanwhile.
.
That is high! Have you any blood tests for this yet or is all this new?
My husband had spikes like these with readings going up to 190-200/90-110 occasionally. Anything out of the ordinary caused a spike but sometimes there was no obvious culprit. A routine hospital visit detected it and he had all sorts of investigations. The only thing that turned up was a polyp on a kidney - classified as harmless. He started taking Amlodopine and has been stable now for 18 months.
Try not to worry - so easy for me to say as I was extremely worried by it all. Some people can have such spikes in BP and once you get the all clear from your tests, medication can correct the problem. Best wishes.
Thanks so much. I’m perfect BP and some days for a few hours it rockets. One DR suggested urine test for adrenal gland tumour that could produce too much adrenaline?
Your readings seem too high, so I can appreciate your concern. I presume your GP is aware of this and is looking after you?
I have been told to take three daily readings, first thing before breakfast or a hot drink, leaving a couple of minutes between each, while sitting relaxed at a table. I was told that mid-day or late afternoon readings aren't advised as these will be higher.
What I was told is that the first reading will generally be the one to ignore as it will be high, which it is (say 145 / 80) but they then they settle down mostly to around 116/75. The top reading ("systolic") fluctuates more than the bottom ("diastolic") reading and is affected by any stress or physical activity.
So far as I understand it, the diastolic is the one that shouldn't "spike" and, if it does, I'd check your BPM against a second machine. The systolic rises according to the body's blood supply demands for oxygen so any physical activity or anxiety will send this up.

My first of the day is the highest and by mid day coming down and at it lowest usually by late night.
My first is higher and my doctor said to ignore that as there often a natural “white coat syndrome” effect that pushes it up, then to take it twice more after a couple of minutes between. He’s right as it always drops. I’ve read that late afternoon is the natural peak then falling over the evening.

Do you have any symptoms when you have very high blood pressure? How long do periods of very high pressure last? Is your blood pressure equipment tested by your GP annually? Have you consulted your GP about your very high blood pressure?I'm not medically qualified, but it does appear to me that you should be asking your GP.
