Hello again. BISOPROLO again! Last week my Husband was called by our Surgery to go for blood tests and a ECG he was called back again to go yesterday to repeat the process and came back with a double whammy of Bisoprolol. This is the third time he been prescribed this drug and he gets terrible side effects and other times he has been taken off by different doctors. He now refuses to take any more. Each day he takes Digoxin, Bumetenide, tamsolosin, fexofeninide, dapsone, omaprosol. Can anyone help please what other type of heart med then to boost his meds other than beta blockers? I am loath to get back to the Surgery. Thank you
Bisoprolol: Hello again. BISOPROLO... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Bisoprolol
Should have included Edoxaban on his shopping list! Thanks
I was changed from Bisoprolol to Nebivolol because of breathlessness and inability to perform normal tasks without feeling drained. I find it a much better beta blocker, dampening down my ectopics and removing the awful breathlessness.
There are other drugs which a GP is able to prescribe as an alternative to Bisoprolol. Your husband needs to be firm that Bisop doesn't suit him. Sometimes it is hard work to persuade some doctors - my cardiologist called it the drug of choice! Best wishes to your husband - I hope he can get it sorted out.
Thank you Finlova, I appreciate your reply. I did message our Surgery but haven't received a reply. My Husband has been in bed all daytoday. His body just cannot take Beta blockers. Thanks again, keep well!
My cardiologist (last week) told me he'd never heard of Nebivolol. This is why I persuaded the GP to switch me to it because I didn't like Bisoprolol at all. He damn well should have heard of it!
Hey exy...what side effects does he get with bisoprolol.
Thank you Tickerprobs. This morning, after taking only 1x1.25 he couldn't stand up, very giddy and before when taking them couldn't breathe. Had a reply from the Doctor to try and take 1 B and increase his Digoxin to 2 per day. Hope that works! Thanks again, keep well.
Thanks John6, as you can see from my reply to Tickerprobs +(love the name!) My Husband's dose of Digoxin has been doubled. Thanks again for your reply.
I had terrible effects from that Beta blocker, it actually made my ectopic beats worse instead of better and so I got the doctor to change me to another it is called Insucor and I take half of a 2.5mg. So sorry to hear about the awful problems your poor husband is having. Hope things improve for him and for you.
I couls not tolerate Bisoprolol 1.25mg nor Atenolol 25mg so i moved first to 120mg Verapamil then later to 200mg Diltazem , both which are calcium channel blockers. I had no side effects in 20 months on verapamil but is was not great at keeping my rate low in afib. I had a few side effects with diltuazem over the 10 months I took. It ( but it was MUCH better than the 2 beta blockers) but put up with them as i knew I would stop after the ablation. It was also good at rate control. Of course every one is different and some people think diltiazem is great. Both worth a try if you cant find a beta blocker you can get on with.
Thank you also KMRobbo, I will get back to the Doc after the weekend, see how my Husband. He is still giddy an d cannot standThanks again. Regards
Sorry I have taken bisoprolol 7.5 for many years now and would not Ike to change to another med . I know they make me tired but that is worth putting up with the benefits are so good. Has it been proved that it is not one of the other meds that is causing the problem and has he given one enough for the side effects to go? If it is the bisoprol then I cannot say anything because I do not know about others. I wish you well
No, he has been fine up until now, other than working really hard in the garden, reclaiming part of it that used to be a chicken run. Out of the blue he was asked to go to the Surgery for a ECG and blood tests which he hasn't had for over a year. He went on his cycle - he doesn't walk very well, arthritis,, so when he arrived his heart rate was high - hence Bisoprolol prescribed by the Triage nurse. He had been prescribed these over 4 years ago when first diagnosed with AF and he was unable to tolerate them then. Thank you for your interest and kind thoughts though.
Hi I hope you come to some combination of these drugs that works for your husband, it sound like he (and you of course) is really struggling.
Just as an alternative opinion to many here, my experience echoes mavisrich in the comment above this. Although I take a lower dosage (I take 1.25mg daily) of Bisoprolol I still function ok with it.
My resting HR is about 7-10 bpm lower than general but my exercising HR is around 20-30 lower than it is without the meds. My EP and arrythmia nurse are of the opinion that htis is better to keep the AFib at bay. Negative effects I have is my BP and HR dropping possibly too far when laying down and if I fall asleep with my hands folded on my chest when I wake up my arms and hands are completely numb from around the elbow down.
I didn't see your husband's dosage in your message (apologies if you did say and I missed it) so am wondering whether a lower dose tablet may halp?
Good luck
Sean
Thank you. The negative effects are the same with him though. He was prescribed 1.25 at the start then that was increased to 3+ the Doc doubled up then. As I said to mavisrich, he doesn't really suffer with bad effects from his usual meds. Thanks again for your reply!
Yes I had already had the ablation before I made that reply!I am fine I have not had AFib since the ablation at the end January 2018, and have not taken ANY drug other than the odd paracetamol since May15 2018.
