Hi Bermuda.
I haven't heard about such devices before reading your thread. It seems they are used for sleep apnea.

I assume you have discussed the device with your doctor ? Sleep apnea is not good for us afibbers. Please make sure though you take proper medical advice before embarking on such a course. I'm sure you have.
Have a great day also.

I havnt been diagnosed with A-fib i seen my Dr yesterday for the rasing heart rates & was told i need to lose weight all my test were good but ik something is wrong yes i have aniexty but this aint aniexty he told me yesterday after i describe my symptoms he said i may need a stress test & sleep Apena test but sum it up with uping Metoprolol to 150mg thats why i was asking about the Cpap machine why the machine not good for Afib?
Hi
After my ablations I became aware of breathing and snoring issues and was diagnosed with mild SA, only 8 events per hour. After EP became involved I was prescribed a CPAP machine and this has helped bringing down SA 'events' to around 1 per hour and has improved sleep quality. Here in the UK 12 months ago CPAP machines were being modified as interim ventilators for use in itu's to assist with Covid treatment.
Ok that is good to hear i was wondering if i needed a machine i dont snore loudly but my husband do very loudly he has a machine i slept on his old machine & i got some good sleep i had a terrible Dr that told me oh u might need a SA test & a Stress test & later just told me oh lose some weight & up my Metoprolol to 150mg its time for a New Gp
If you change your GP you may find he / she tells you the same thing. It's important to try and lose some weight with any heart condition if you are overweight.

CPAP machines are specifically set for individual needs and you need a prescription after a Sleep Study to acquire one, in the UK anyway. It’s like medicines - not a good idea to use someone else’s machine without calibrating the machine to your specific requirements and be monitored (the machine sends automated readings to my clinic) as you could do damage to yourself.
Yes and I’ve been on CPAP now for about 7 years. As soon as was able to sleep through the night - about 6 weeks after acclimatising to CPAP - nocturnal AF ceased and my sleep improved from about 50% - 75-100%.
Thats a good thing my husband sleeps with 1 & his whole quality of life changed so i was wondering why paul said in his comment its not good cpap for A fibs i slept on my husband old machine & i slept like a baby a little high heart rate but it was bearable😊
My understanding was what he said was that Sleep Apnea was not good for AF and that he hadn’t heard of CPAP as a treatment.
My Pulmonologist tried to take my CPAP machine back as he told me that my SA events which had been 11-20 had now declined to less than 5 - which was the threshold for prescribing - I reminded him that I had AF and Myasthenia and he immediately backed off and said that I had better keep it!
My cardio consultant told me many years of undiagnosed sleep apnea would have been the cause of my AF, since using Cpap every night for the past 18 months , I have slept so much better and do feel my AF is under better control and of hopefully helped me recover more steadily after my two ablations.
I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnoea after developing af. I had an ablation and consultant told me that if apnoea was left untreated, the af would come back. I now have cpap machine, and am really well
I've had a CPAP for about 10 years ,it helps so much to give you a decent sleep .You might have a bit of trial and error till you find the right mask for you ,but I think its worth the effort .

Just to clarify - I meant sleep apnoea is not good for afib (not the CPAP machine).

I think you have every right to ask your GP for a referral - indeed I think you should. Please note CD's comment

My advice is to ask your GP for a referral. It might take a while with the current covid crisis so you could consider an initial private consultation depending on your budget. Either way it's worth getting the ball rolling.

Thank u thats what i aiming to do set myself up with another Gp see how this work
If you have a fib I hope you are also seeing a cardio. I have had SA for years and a fib. Three ablutions. Can’t seem to keep my weight down. It when my weight was down my SA was so much bette, he took me off C Pap. Since then gained weight back and had my last two ablutions and now mild HF so get it all under control. I have so many regrets as I started having tachycardia in my 20s. They knew nothing back then. I’m 69 now. Take care
oh yeah! Chicken or egg story but both diagnosed the same year....
I have sleep apnea on top of AFib and Aflutter. I religiously use the Cpap machine (don't want to lose my license!). To be honest I have found it helps with the AFib - or at least it doesn't harm it. I have a ResMed machine and downloaded the app so that I could assess my own sleep quality. I've found that on days where I have a good sleep score, I don't flutter/fib as much as on days where I have poor sleep quality, of course this could just be coincidence - who knows..... It takes a little getting use to but does make a difference. My apnea instances have dropped significantly.
Thank u! Thats all i was saying thats what i was doing i havnt had a goodnight sleep in a week & when i slept on my husband machine testing the water he took it down from where it was set for bc he & i both know if i do have sleep apnea its not as bad as his he was diagnosed as very Severe i had the best sleep. So for the people thats coming down on me it was a test trial
I have AFIB and sleep apnea. It does help me sleep better. More so for the sleep apnea as my events per night have reduced. I wake up refreshed. It is an ongoing battle with getting the right fit and flow, but my afib was only at night , at the time I started CPAP, I noticed a decrease in afib as well.
Now my afib is anytime , any situation and has happened while on CPAP. BUT to not have to worry about sleep apnea because of the CPAP is very nice.
After I was diagnosed with AFib, my EP insisted I have a sleep study to rule out sleep apnea. Well, turns out I did have it and moderately severely (30+ events per hour). Been on a CPAP ever since. Sleep much better. After ablation, AFIB is better too.
How old are you if you dont mind me asking & were your afib more active during the day or at night?
I was 71 when diagnosed - 73 now. AFIB was unpredictable, but many times would wake up with it. Generally my triggers are fatigue and stress (good and bad). Before starting the CPAP, I was tired most of the time, which contributed to the AFIB.
Oh ok but your resting better now. Do you still get to enjoy lufe or has it changed i havnt seen a cardiologist as of yet waiting an appointment im so afraid everyday all day im thinking im dying im 48
Its good to hear great news 😊👌
