Thank you all for your replies but they’ve just cancelled my ablation. Very disappointed at the short notice but hey ho. Might have to look at going private because this is the second time this has happened.

Ablation cancelled
How disappointing. All the stress the lead up to these procedures bring all for nothing. Hope you get your ablation soon,
How miserable for you - after the hope and build up. I hope you can find a solution which works - perhaps a different venue?
It was supposed to be at a private venue as the normal hospital isn’t available but I don’t think I have any say in where it takes place. I’ve just got to be patient, I suppose.
That’s rotten luck. When I was researching EPs, it was suggested that not all private hospitals had full resuscitation facilities. Ablations were offered at our local private hospital, but few were being performed, so the support staff had little expertise apparently. Private patients most often had their ablations at the local NHS cardiac unit. Cost there £7000 in 2017.
So disappointing for you. Over what period of time have these appointments been cancelled? I think I'd want to know why this happened yet again.
Jean
Both this year and both due to staffing issues. This time around I’d been pre screened and was 24hrs from admittance. Disappointed but hopefully they will find a spot for me that they can fulfil soon.
It just wasn't meant to be this time. Did they give any indication how long it would be before they'd offer you another date.
The last I heard it was about £13,000 in the UK for a private ablation, it may have gone up now though.
No, previously they gave me a new date on cancellation but nothing today. The main gripe I have with waiting is my body doesn’t seem fond of Amiodorone so the sooner I can get off that, the better.
A good point to share my experience of last week in case it can give you a little hope. I have had two ablations , the last one being December 2019 but annoyingly I had two hospital visits for AF episodes where my Flecainide PIP didn't work June and then July 2020 and the only drug that controlled it was Amiodarone so I was put on 200mg until an agreed 3rd Ablation. In January this year after being on Amiodarone for 6 months and during an annual eye test it was discovered it was causing issues with my eyes. I informed my heart consultant and he told be to stop taking it and go cold turkey and to be honest that concerned me, but I did. 10 days later on the Monday I received a call from the hospital asking if I could come in that Wednesday ( 48 hours notice ) and have the ablation, I grabbed the opportunity due to being on no medication other than Rivaroxiban. I had the cannula put in, I had the ECG and my bloods were sent off to check, I was then visited by the Consultant who told me that my heart was looking OK having seen the ECG and bloods and really didn't want to do the ablation as it might upset something that was settling down so I was sent home. We discussed medication and he has put me on Dronedarone as it is far less toxic than Amiodarone , I have another consultation in 3 months. My eyes, in conjunction with special eyedrops are improving already. If you are having your first ablation then I wish you all the best, As we all know there is obviously no fixed time for an ablation to work as we all so very different, but I remain optimistic that mine took longer and in conjunction with the Amiodarone gave it the extra time it needed to heal!
My cardioversion was cancelled in Feb I was also on amiodarone realy bad side affects blurred eyes bad back pain traveling up the spine pains all over I couldn’t move out of my chair also couldn’t sleep so I rang me specialist and he said come off them immediately so that’s where I am still waiting for second cardioversion hp this is helpful it’s not a drug that should be taken long term
That stinks, wife recently had one in the US it cost 70,000 dollars before Insurance over the top for the cost in my opinion. Her actu out of pocket wasn't bad though
Sorry to hear that, you are obviously very disappointed I hope you get another date ASAP.
Thank you
One of the best things I ever did was get an ablation at the age of 36 years old. Changed my whole life, for the better. I wish you luck in the future that you can get one asap. I live in the US, and the cost was around 100k$ which is ridiculous, fortunately I didn't have a lot of out of pocket expense besides deductible. I have a post in here somewhere explaining how mine went verbatim.
So sorry to hear, I understand how you build yourself up to it. Just a suggestion which you may have done is to tell them that you are willing to go at very short notice (if you can). May give you an extra chance.
I've had 2 private ablations cancelled, March 2020 and July 2020. Still waiting. So private seems to be no better. Some people are having ablations but I don't know why. I am very symptomatic with a resting heart rate of low 100's.
consider yourself lucky. I wish I'd never had mine because I've never been the same. Maybe your angels are trying to protect you.
