GENACOL FOR KNEE PAIN is it OK with Blood Thinners ?

My doctor says that it should be OK. The Pharmacist told me to talk to my doctor.

There seems to be a lot of passing it on in medicine today !!

Is any one else taking it here in the AF community. If so what were you told by your doctors? Does it work for joint pain? What has been your experience?

Any other products you have tried that fit in with the thinners, for joint pain.

Thanks to all in advance that take the time to respond.

This product appears to be a collagen supplement derived from animal cartilage and it is not a drug as such. How it may or may not interact with anticoagulants may well depend on individuals. We are not medially trained to advise on such matters.

In general any NSAIDs such as ibuprofen must be avoided if you have AF or are taking anticoagulants but apparently the gels used sparingly occasionally should not cause problems.

Thank you Bob. I was just wondering if anyone else has taken it and if they found it useful. I checked the Drug interaction, and contraindication websites and it all seems clear. To Finvola, no it doesn't contain Turmeric , just hydrolysed bovine collagen 400mg and eggshell membrane.

Genacol may contain turmeric which can enhance anticoagulation. Best to check that out. Ask your GP about using an anti-inflammatory gel for flare-ups. Sorry, can't be more helpful.

Thank you Finvola. I just gave a response to Bob above and I also addressed it to you. Were you thinking of any anti-inflammatory gel in particular?

Thanks again.

My GP said I could use Ibuprofen gel occasionally and sparingly. I believe Piroxicam is also very good but you would certainly need to discuss it with your GP. I hope you can get some relief.

Thank you Finvola. I appreciate your kind help. I just started on this Genacol. I'm taking MSM, of course magnesium and calcium which can help as pain killers.

Lots of vitamin C . I'm also using Menthol cream. Thank you for your kind concern. Have yourself a great day. It's amazing how blood thinners can throw your world upside down.

Hi. I use a gel for neck and shoulder pain. I am prescribed it and was told as stated used sparingly it is fine. I use it once a day rubbed into my neck and shoulder. Approximately a blob on my first finger the size of a fat pea. It does go quite far and that with paracetamol seems to do the trick. O do also have disposable heat pads O use every day. Had to get ones with no ibrufen on them Cura heat. Xx

Bleeding problems: Taking turmeric might slow blood clotting. This might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding in people with bleeding disorders.

Turmeric is to be avoided with anti-coagulants .
