I started on Ramipril Christmas Eve, just a low dose 1.25mg. The dose increased on the 7th January to 2.5mg, which seems to be helping. Since the increase , have had this cough, which I know is a side effect. Has anyone had it and does it eventually go, without stopping the Ramipril?
Ramipril cough. : I started on Ramipril... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Ramipril cough.
I’m on 10mg Ramipril and also asthmatic and occasionally have a little tickley cough but not enough for me to stop taking it, it usually passes quickly.
I can cope with the cough in the day, but sometimes it's keeping me awake at night. Ramipril is working for me and I really don't want to change it. Spoke to my nurse earlier and she said, she would try me on Amlodipine 5mg, but I will get swollen ankles and not to panic. Told her I will persevere with Ramipril over weekend and see how it goes. Will spk with her Monday.
I had to stop taking it cough was awful
I have been on Ramipril 10mg for about 6 years with no side effects. hope it sorts it self out quickly for you.
My wife had to switch as cough kept her up most of the night
I had exactly the same problem with a cough.
My doctor switched me to Candasartan
It would be worth talking to your doctor as this is a common side effect of Ramipril.
Pete
I had to stop it as the cough was unrelenting
I started ramipril but also got the cough so I asked my GP if there was an alternative. He said that ARBs are very similar as ace inhibitors but without the annoying side effect (cough) so I was prescribed Losartan. No cough...
8 years and still coughing, but not badly enough to stop........so no, for me at least it hasn't gone away over time.
Good luck
Put up with the Ramipril cough for two years or so but finally asked to be switched to something else as I felt that the constant coughing wasn't doing my heart any good. Candesartan was suggested and the cough went within weeks.
I took Ramipril and developed a dry cough. Put up with it for a couple of months but at my GP review, she said there was no need to put up with that as there were other options. Swapped to Candesartan and that has worked for me
