Ablation and Covid

Hi all, I had an ablation for SVT 5 months ago. I was exposed to covid and have now been in quarantine awaiting my test results and I am very scared but trying not to worry. I’m hoping because the ablation was deemed successful that it won’t effect my heart terribly if I am positive but I can’t help but be so worried that all the progress I’ve made would go down the toilet. Any one know if Covid would effect your heart if you’ve had an ablation?

I am scheduled for an ablation but haven't had it yet (nor have I had C-19) , so I am interested in your post and how the virus might affect you. If I were to test positive I would take zinc right away. Way back in March a pharmacist told me it lines the lungs and protects them.

Also, if I were to test positive I would inquire about the Cycle Threshold number. That comes out several days after the test result. We don't tend to hear about it but back in July Dr. Fauci said if it's over 35 it isn't infectious and is a non-issue because it is "drilling" into dead cells. If under 35, the lower the number the more infectious. So in other words, it's possible people can test positive but have no reason to quarantine. Let us know how it goes for you.marcyh

Interesting. Do you know anyone in the UK who has been able to get that sort of information from a COVID test? As far as I am aware the results just come back positive or negative.

This link explains the research behind the CT number - academic.oup.com/cid/articl...

I'm in Canada so I don't know and I haven't even heard of anyone getting it here. I just know if I tested positive I would do whatever I could to get it. I think I'll start asking doctors when I see them just to see what I can find out.

More about it here. In little noticed July interview, Fauci warned that widely used COVID tests may pick up 'dead' virus

It's usually hypertension doctors worry about if a person gets the virus and has any heart issues. My concern is I have fast PAF. If I should get an episode I get very short of breath and have a tendency to pass out.

I can see the relevance of the CT number but I did some Enquiries today & that figure is not recorded on the NHS lateral flow test - just a positive or negative.

Interesting. Maybe something to keep pursuing. Good article you found on the academic site.

As I understand matters, I don't think an arrythmia in and of itself causes a worsening of Covid-19, although certain conditions that predispose us to having arrythmias might.

For Covid to develop into its serious form, I gather there needs to have been a change in some of the cells that exist in certain organs of the body, e.g. in the lungs and the bowel. Although, in older children and adults, these naturally contain cells that produce an enzyme called "ACE2", in certain inflammatory conditions, these proliferate, e.g. diabetes, hypertension, asthma and even obesity. I gather that an excess of these cells can lead to the so-called "cytokine-" or "bradykinin storm" that brings on such a potentially dangerous and rapid worsening of Covid-19.

It is a worry, one that I am sure will be shared by many and the short answer is I don’t think anyone will know until it happens to them as it seems to affect everyone differently.

Maybe ring the AFA helpline? There are quite a lot of videos on the website of the specialists talking about what they know at the moment about how COVID may affect the body.

My sister is currently suffering COVID, as an ICU nurse it quite clear how she was infected. She is high risk so I am concerned for her and anyone else in this situation.

Very best wishes and do let us know how you get on.

I do hope your sister is ok . My daughter is an ICU Consultant and caught Covid when there was a PPE shortage and she didn’t have the right equipment . My heart goes out to anyone with family working in the ICU . It’s been a whole new level of anxiety like sending your child off to fight on the front line . I hate the Covidiots and those banging on about holidays with a passion

Thanks Peony. She has now recovered, slowly. It’s now on 2 months and she is now on graduated return to work. She hasn’t done a full shift yet and finds it very tiring but improving day by day. She’s only doing 2 short shifts a week. Same thing re: PPE but she says the equipment they have is an improvement but it’s very hot and uncomfortable and very tiring to work in. I do hope there will be full enquiry over this because it is a scandal and far too many people have suffered and died because of it.

After shielding for nearly a year now - I so agree about the Covidiots and those wanting holidays! Living in Devon we can’t now find anywhere quiet to walk, wear masks outdoors and this week-end it was madness in many of the Cornish and Devon towns with many fines imposed. Reportedly Police on the London trains and on the roads asking people their reason for travelling. Not enough though to prevent many of the idiots flooding our towns!

It is very worrying for family on the front line. My niece is Police and they are very exposed with people becoming argumentative and have no protection. My sister is more worried, rightly, about her.

Am sure your sister has told you intensive care units were understaffed before the pandemic struck and the shifts they have been working are punitive in the extreme I don’t know how she has kept going and am so grateful for my son in law who has done a wonderful job of shouldering the domestic burden while running his own company and caring for their 8 year old son . We live at the seaside also and the first rays of sunlight out they all come queues 30 deep for the ice cream shop no masks or social distancing I hate them hate them hate them .

Am sure you are all worried about your niece . People purposely coughing and spitting at the police it’s beyond belief . I understand it would be impossible to do a search on the NHS computers to identify these people but you would think they could send a vaccination team into the police stations as they have done with care homes. I hope she stays safe

The question of vaccination of Police is very hot topic and one we all have very strong views about. They have no priority, medical staff do, not Police.

The JCVI has said in its report on Phase 2, the well under 50s that the quickest method to vaccinate them is by age, not employment, gender, ethnic origin, or BMI. It said that the time spent in identifying those who fall into those groups would be better spent in Vaccinating people by age ranges

I can quite see that but it’s a bit of an anomaly that medical front line workers are eligible but police, ambulance & fire are not when their exposure risk is so high.

When I had SVT attacks, my heart rate would get up to 210 bpm. Very scary.

Mine is the same. How long did you’re last longest mine lasted at that rate was 1hour 45 mins. It’s scares me. How did the ablation go? Has it worked for you? So many questions sorry? How often were you having a svt attack
